Welcome
to Freedom, Maine
To two
of our postings on two of our blogs about our people
The
Moiigans (Maïngan – Yáw – Wolf-People).
This
first posting is a copy of our original map of what the village of Uncasvillage
looked like before first contact.
The Land
of Sachem Uncas in the 1600's
The
original is kept under lock because it is the only one in existence and really
old!
And
A Google
site for writing about our people.
Back in
the 1940’s and 1950’s I remember traveling throughout the New England/New York
areas with my elders, most of the cold weather gatherings, powwows and Paw-paus
were held in Grange halls like your Dirigo Grange in Maine.
Up until
the late 1980’s (Government Controlled Casino Indians), all Native American
Tribes were recognized as “Real Live People” throughout the area!
I know
that we travels all over your state.
However,
I am not sure if we ever stopped at your Grange Hall?
If not
it was our loss.
We were
members of what we left of the Maïngan (13 Families), and traveled with elders
from other tribes throughout the New England/New York area.
