Let's do this once again.

Some people are still charging for teaching and or ceremonies, this is so wrong.
This has been covered in my blog and website Naming Ceremony Protocol.
On my Tobacco blog it was explained that a tracker on my blog and website is used as one of many teaching tool.
When people ask questions about ceremonies it is very important to understand that one should never pay for teaching or ceremonies, the only exception is native tobacco ( Kicnic-kicnic also known as herbs). Some family's give a meal after however, that is up to a family not for payment.
What Creator gives for free must remain free.
While using search engines you see that many tribes have their way to do ceremonies.
As with ours, in most tribes it is O. K. to have a baby invited into a naming ceremony, as long as there is no charge. Creator used a Red Fox to give me my name at the age of 6.
Many tribes also have a naming ceremony once the person is old enough to know what it is all about, the only real important thing to remember is, allow time for an elder to go to Creator in prayer for the correct name, this should if possible be done before the day of the ceremony, because all ceremonies must be blessed by Creator or there really is no ceremony.
Yes this is getting redundant however, wannabe spiritual leaders are still doing, not performing, ceremonies and are still charging.
This is a repeat of an earlier blog.
First and the most important thing would be to make sure that you are an American native, to find this out ask an elder.
The traditional way to make a request to receive your American native name is to give a gift of Kicnic-kicnic, as the request is made, to the person you are requesting the name from.
You and your family must also plan a meal or "feast" to celebrate after the Naming Ceremony is completed.
If others are receiving their names, the covered dishes will be shared.
Present a gift of tobacco from your left hand to the left hand of the individual you are wishing to receive a name from this means heart to heart.
This person should be a person you respect and must be someone who is an American native elder from the nation that you are requesting a name from.
Personally ask if you may make a request of this person, either in person, by phone or e-mail. Receive this individual's consent to allow you to make a request.
Honor a male and a female with tobacco and request that they stand with you as sponsors at the ceremony. These should be individuals who have made a significant impact in your life and are familiar with that American native nation.
Naming ceremony is held in a prayer circle with a fire, both of which must be properly prepared. (Honor the prayer circle with appropriate attire and attitudes. Regalia should be worn if available.)
Give thanks to the Creator and all the sponsors.
One should NEVER have to pay for any American native gift;
If you do the gift will be void, and so will the ceremony!

Herbs are Tobacco, Sweet grass, Sage, Herbs and NOT Cigarettes!

Native American Herbs and Tobacco is still the number one question out on the Internet!

As with Native American names, one should never have to pay for any Sacred Herbs.

Herbs not previously blessed from Creator, are not yet Sacred.

Native American Tobacco is Kinnick~Kinnick, Sweet grass, or Sage.

You can always purchase non sacred Native American Tobacco ( Kinnick-Kinnick) on line if you trust the site, or you can purchase Kinnick-Kinnick at your local powwow gathering.

Please remember, there is nothing sacred about any chemical, they are all poison so, what you would be saying if gifting a cigarette as tobacco to this person would be, I do not think enough about you to give safe tobacco, I poison you!

My ancestors were simple common sense people.

Their tobacco was grown without chemicals, the ancestors did not need them!

Today our elders know that cigarettes cause cancer, even if they smoke, someone that they know and love has died a horrible death from this cancer.

Please do not insult them by an offering of a cancer causing cigarette.

Will you please use Kinnick~ Kinnick (herbs)?

If you do not know how to get a name or herbs that have been blessed correctly, never buy a name or herbs! Creator is watching!

Only Creator can Bless a name or herbs, or anything else for that matter.

Back before first contact Traditional Native American Tobacco was not ever used for smoking, Period!

This tobacco was much too strong for smoking!

The Europeans mixed chemicals into tobacco making it smooth enough to get hooked on!

The only exception to smoking our herbs was in our Friendship pipe, this would show a true interest about the making of friends, even then it was not inhaled!

Native American Tobacco has many uses however, all of these uses are for the good of the people, never for harm as with smoking!

How did native Americans clean peace pipes?

If this is at an Eastern Woodland American Native Ceremony, the pipe is never cleaned as a European would clean a pipe, a pipe keeper will either take the pipe out or pass it to a trusted student of the pipe, to Mother Earth and by way of our sacred ceremony, give the tobacco (Kinnick~ Kinnick) back to her, Mother Earth.

We have Friendship and Sacred pipes!

Indigenous people are Indigenous everywhere.

Avatar the movie.

When first hearing the word AVATAR and every time a film clip of this film came on TV, I felt a spirit steer deep in the heart and knew native people must see this movie.
However, first thing you will see is that James Cameron in the movie, took most of his Na Vi, native people of Pandora, ways from the Native Americans of Indian country and did not give credit where credit is due!
The Sky people from earth are just like the Europeans soon after first contact with Indian country.
Even with all of the destruction, blood and pain if you have native blood, and if you feel or have been told that you have native blood you must see this movie at least once.
Because of the knowledge of what happened to Indian country, three half breeds called Avatars (Jake Sully, Norm Spellman, and Grace Augustine ), were able to convince the Na Vi's Mother ( like our Mother Earth) to seek the help of their Creator and they defeated the invaders from earth, Sky people!
If you do see this movie, and feel this spirit deep in your heart, you have native blood.
P. S.
If you are a proud card carrying member of the governments Native American club, do not go see this film looking for this spirit because Wannabe's, like you, will never feel this spirit in their heart!

Why some Natives are wrong on 'Geronimo'

I think that this has been played out in the press long enough However, hear is another point of view!
This administration has explained just what I felt while reading the reports on this campaign.
Geronimo " A great leader and fighter for the rights of his people" was the codename for the navy seals operation, also great men & women fighting for the rights of people around the world!
EKIA or (Jackpot) was the codename for OBL!
If this administration had used the name Uncas, our great leader because he was a fox, as OBL, I would have been very upset however, using Uncas as a codename for that campaign would had fit, although not as smooth as my hero Geronimo.
The point is that the world now has one less savage senseless killer to deal with!

Native American Religion, Culture, Traditions, Beliefs and Spirituality.

Native American Religion, Culture, Traditions, Beliefs and Spirituality.

This would seem to be a long gone time period that people like myself can only reminisce about.

However, while reading this website one would have to agree with her.

Mortal Indian, Immortal Manifest Destiny

Wambli Sina Win (a Rosebud Lakota) is correct to be speaking for all of the tribes past and present, because since first contact the indigenous peoples of Indian country has dwindled down to around 500 tribes recognized and at least as many not recognized by this government!

I can speak with true knowledge from my people about the treatment of our graves, because we had to allow a giant cement grave stone to be built in a place where people could think that our great Sachem Chief Unkas is buried for fear that someday it will be disturbed. Neither he, nor any of the ancestors were ever buried in that place.

Only a few Traditionalists will ever know the true resting place of our first leader and first ancestors!

The owners of the cemetery were my people were buried found my grandfathers site and just buried over him!
