My first thought to the question is, "take the gift".

Please do not refuse a gift from a Native American because this would be very insulting, if you do not like the gift or want the gift please wait until no longer in sight of this person, you can always give the gift away later, in fact if you have spent time with Native people especially traditional native people, they usually do not keep anything for long because, it is part of our belief, everything on Mother Earth is a gift to the people from Creator and is intended to be given as a gift!
