In memory of my
friend 'Miss Jane'
Our
friend, Mother Black Bear follow-up
As
you might now know from the above story, Miss Jane was living in her den in
woods adjacent to ‘Bates Wood Park’ and Tarzans backyard.
Tarzan,
sorry I do not remember if I ever knew him by any other name, was one of my
elder/teachers and a very good friend
while growing up in Uncasvillage.
After
her adoption ceremony and naming ceremony she lived in one of the bedrooms in
Tarzans house.
You
also might remember that Tarzan often took her in his truck to gathering in and
around our village.
In
the winter months she liked to hibernate in his basement on a mattress setup
for her in a dark room.
Members
of the village and some of her friends would walk with her to spend a day and
sometime evening at the den
until
‘progress started getting too close for her comfort’!
Tarzans
property had 6 cheery trees 4 pear trees, 6 apple trees, 2 peach trees and his
wall and fence around the property was home for many types of grape vines.
We
used the grape vines for making our teardrop dream catchers and our clan
mothers used the grapes to eat, make pies cakes, and fruit drinks.
He
had a large garden that would feed rabbits, deer, birds, raccoons, neighbors,
himself and now ‘Miss Jane’!
The
family chipped in cost and labor to plant blue berries, he had strawberries so
we planted any berry plant that would produce berries for our new friends 'Miss Jane'.
Miss
Jane loved to play games with the family like keep away, a game with no rules,
no winners and no losers, just fun trying to keep the ball away from everyone
else.
If
there was a rule it was that Miss Jane could not carry the ball in her mouth
and humans could not use hands.
As you might expect, the family had pets, we had Lady a
'White Beagle' with brown and black patches on
her.
Lady
and Miss Jane would play tirelessly and loved the game of keep away.
When
Miss Jane passed, the next day after the crossing ceremony Lady crossed!
Tarzans
crossing was half-way through my military time,
I
was on the USS Waterford at the New London/Groton Sub-Base

at the time an was able to get leave to watch over his crossing ceremony.

The
New England, New York, New Jersey, Delaware area and a few form Canada came to
remember a great man!
If I missed you or
your family, or ancestors with this posting, please write, I am going through a
lot of stuff and beg your forgiveness!
Love and blessings from
