feathers for our first Shechaim

Seven feathers of Shechaim Unkas (Uncas)

Looking for information about feathers on our first Shechaim, you are calling Sachem?

What is the specific meaning of the feathers on the Bust of Sachem Uncas?

OK

After scanning the sites that you were on while checking I can see your confusion.

First, if I was to choose a first, would be that there are no known photos of Shechaim Unkas, people can only guess according to the year and the area of the people while he was our leader.

Next would be the long hair of our people at the time that he was our leader, no long hair.

There were no Witches, Warlocks, Sayers, the Occult, or Shamans in our tribe while he was our leader and at no time while any Shechaim was our leader?

Leaders before and after wore a roach usually made of porcupine needles without feathers.

Why

Because in times past, tree branches and bushes would tangle the head piece and their hair, real hard on the head while trying to run in times of a battle?

there were and still should be 7 feathers on the Royal Staff however nothing to do with jewelry or witch craft!

I will not be writing down the order of the feathers or were they are places because of so many wannabe copycats lately?

I see that my NLHS has moved to a new location from my days in school?

Was there No Mohegan until Uncas took the name?

Welcome City Los Angeles California

Thank you for this excellent question.

I see that you came to many our blogs and/or websites while looking for this answer.

So sorry for the delay, I also see that you asked on 29 Mar, Sun, 19:04:40 in my tracker.

I would have answered sooner if it wasn't for someone in a big truck wanting my lane and he took the lane!

I love your question and look forward to many more just like it from anyone?

Let's start with a fact, Uncas did not chose the name Mohegan, a clerk at the town hall miss spelled the name, (Mohiigan) however, while looking back at our records I believe that Shechaim Ohjieshan Poquiam, (Unkas)-(Uncas) another misspelling, might have used an older misspelled word Mohican just as we his decedents do now and again because we get tired of correcting non-Mohiigan's?

Fact, our people were in the Great Lakes Area as farmers and were bullied east by aggressive neighbors until we had no place else to go other then the ocean and took our village as what you now call Pequot's, another misspelled name (Moheganeak)!

Proposed plans for bike across Everglades

A 'Black top Bike Trail' will lead to Golf-carts, then Motor Scooters, then Motorcycles, then ATVs and so on!

We need to protect our "Water Supply" Wild-Life and the Land?

Our state is already selling our drinking water to the highest bidder twice as fast as it can replenish itself!

Amendment 1: FL passes conservation amendment

Associated Press, AP 8:37 p.m. EST November 4, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) - Florida voters have passed a measure that designates billions of dollars to conservation efforts over the next 20 years.

This bike trail is a "BACK DOOR" opportunity for this "Greedy Congress" to be able to end up selling the Everglades to "Big Business!"

Bike trail across the Everglades draws protests

By Jenny Staletovich

A bike path across the Everglades, even a green one intended to do little damage to the fragile ecosystem, is drawing fire from a group of indigenous people and other critics who say the proposed 76-mile long ribbon of asphalt is an insult to them and nature.

“It opens the door to more development in the Everglades,” said Betty Osceola, a member of the Miccosukee Tribe, which lives in the Glades. “Once you give them that door and open it, they’re going to walk right on through and keep opening more and more doors. It won’t stop.”

The Associated Press declared Amendment 1 passed on Tuesday. With about half the expected votes counted, the amendment had 75 percent "yes" votes to 25 percent no. It needed 60 percent of the vote to pass.

Inaccurate depiction of Native Americans

Letter: Inaccurate depiction of Native Americans

It has been a long, long time since I have seen these extremely important words on someone's website or blog, "Ceremonies are very sacred to us and should never be done for publicity. Our spirituality is not a sideshow, nor should it ever be used for self-recognition."

I offer pray to Creator for a blessing shower on you and your people Yolonda Blue Horse because you and your people are holding on to your culture and your ancestors!

My name is Yolonda Blue Horse, and I am an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe.

Letter: Inaccurate depiction of Native Americans

"I read this article about the sunrise ceremony in Post, and I and others in the community are completely outraged by this event. There are so many things wrong with what this group has done but most importantly, this is a gross misrepresentation of who Native Americans are.

I could give you a list of things that were wrong, but I will just say it is known by any tribe, tribal member or someone who truly respects our cultures, that any ceremony is not to be put in the media for any reason.

Ceremonies are very sacred to us and should never be done for publicity. Our spirituality is not a sideshow, nor should it ever be used for self-recognition.

I assume you did not know a lot of what this group has done wrong, such as mixing two tribes together (Sioux and Comanche) to conduct a ceremony, which is just outlandish. Here we have a group of individuals who do not respect our spirituality and attempt to morph it into something it is not.

In summary, it is because of groups like these Native Americans are depicted in an incredibly inaccurate way. The activity by this group, not a federally or state-recognized tribe, has outraged many people in the Native American community and also has saddened many because this is not who we are."
