Prayer pouch or Medicine Pouch?

Get your coffee take a seat this is going to take some time!

I was in the V.A. for a doctor check up on the 11th

On the way out I heard, “I Love Your Medicine Pouch”!

Regalia from tribes throughout this land of our ancestors is as different as the people and the land its self!

Why would Shechaim Ohjieshan write about ‘Pouches’?

Because 90% of the experts writing about ‘Indian Country”,” Government Controlled Casino Indians” or “Native American Country”, have not the slightest idea of the real ancestors of the people places or land that they are writing about, most just take what fits their idea of the truth and write for profit!

Point of fact - I found out years ago that people thought that my name was (Sack um Walkingfox ‘Sachem’)

I have since dropped the 'European American' word Sachem to the Native American Country True Name of Shechaim!

Remember; I am of the Eastern Woodland Native American Country retired to Central Florida the land of a ‘Milting pot of people’!

Well Duh!

No one would ever know a pouch of a ‘Medicine person male or female’ from my people and not one of those pouches below in the images looks like our Prayer or Medicine Pouch!

The following is a quick introduction to this post?

I was in the V.A. for a doctor check up on the 11th

On the way out I heard, “I Love Your Medicine Pouch”!

In this hallway in and out of this V.A. it is always busy so I could not see the person.

Again, “I Love Your Medicine Pouch” I did see a ‘Sister from a tribe’ and said, “Thank-you”

The third time she said, “I Love Your Medicine Pouch”!

I again thanked her but the crowd was pushing us in different direction!

So; why am I writing to you today?

Did you check out the photos of pouches above?

I felt that she is of the ‘Indian Country Tribes’?

I write only about my people because this is what I know and there are still around 500 to 1,000 tribes throughout our land!

Every person of the ‘first people of this land’ should be as well known as the people on reservations, in cities, states or in ‘government controlled Indian casino land’?

We are not and this is why I write!

P.S. she has been added to my list at the ‘prayer Alter’

American Native Prayer Pouch

Why you should never touch a natives pouch?

Elder traditional American Native’s go through many years of prayer with  our Creator and other Elders and it is at this time that sacred things are placed into a prayer pouch.

This pouch is not the problem it is the Medicine inside that is extremely sacred to this Elder!

Some of this medicine dates back hundreds of years.

Any and all American Natives, given the chance can and should readily explain about this belief.

It is what is inside that should not be abused!

Yes, knowledge is the best way to counter ignorance, which leads to hatred and disrespect that is why

I try to spend as much time as possible doing just that,

Teaching!

What is a Native American prayer pouch?

Not to be confused with a Medicine pouch however, almost as sacred as one, a prayer pouch worn by our people is one of the many ways to help us remind our friends to send a prayer to our Creator.

Each time one sees a prayer pouch one should stop and say a prayer.

I see nothing wrong with that?

I cannot believe that in this day and age of enlightenment non native women

still think, or do not think, or do not care, that it is O.K. for them to reach out

and grab our sacred pouch and ask,

“so what do you have in this thing”?

While teaching why it is that I step back and cover up.

 I get something like,

“well you should keep it covered inside of your shirt”?

My guess is that doing so would kind of defeat the main reason for wearing it in the first place,

what do you think?

No traditional American native would never question one about their beliefs,

in fact we would be pleased just knowing that you had beliefs.

How to receive a Native American name, European and Spiritual.

How to receive a Native American name, European and Spiritual.

Before starting this blog please remember that it is not necessary to have any native name to be able to enjoy speaking with the creator of all creation!

That said let us begin.

I would first respectfully disagree with answers to this question that parents can choose native names for their children however, one can agree that there is a wide range of naming ceremonies from all over Indian country.

One should agree that asking an elder for help is a good idea, again one must be careful when going through a human, one must always turn this and all questions over to creator.

Many humans out in Indian country are in the naming business solely to make money off of your need to have a native name.

Before any ceremony, prayer is a requirement, then you and your elder/elders can go through a list of some name you believe most likely to fit you.

Time to once again pray, pray for help with what creator wishes, one you have chosen and/or one from creator.

Remember, creator will always choose your Spiritual name first, then give you a European name to fit that Spiritual one.

Prayer of thanks for creators kindness, understanding, and love for you and you names that should place your heart in the correct mood to speak with your creator, this should be the only reason for a need to receive a native name, never for show and tell!

I believe that natives should get into the habit of making and wearing a prayer pouch, this pouch (with your Spiritual name inside) will then remind natives you pass by to remember prayer.

Do not wait for your name, get in the habit of wearing your prayer pouch, not a medicine pouch, a prayer pouch!

If you try this with a phony name or a name from a phony person, or abuse your right to a Spiritual name, remember " Creator is always watching" so you are on your own and better repent!

Native American ceremony to fight evil spirits?

First we must always remember that most of the spirits that one bumps into are by no means evil.

A son or daughter at war is shot by a sniper, this person, now a shocked spirit lost between worlds, is this an evil spirit?

Your baby falls into a swimming pool, is this an evil spirit?

My son, at work and a cement wall falls on him, is he an evil spirit?

If you have a pouch that you know Creator has blessed, believe that it has been blessed so no evil can enter into you, as long as you keep believing!
http://mysmudgingblog.blogspot.com/search?q=Pouch
If you do not have a pouch, buy one, have someone make it for you or even better make your own.
This is a good site for a beginner however, use your own imagination while crafting.
Please buy the skin, Sachems is from Moose skin however, do not go out and kill for any reason especially for a little pouch.
http://www.nativetech.org/clothing/pouch/puzzlepouch/puzzlepouchinstructions.html
The internet ( with the blessings of Creator) will help in this project.
Then contact your nearest Spiritual leader, eye to eye, phone, or on the internet for what comes next.

Were they guilty or were they framed?

Also?

Welcome and know this someone will answer sometimes it might take time sorry.

I have been blessed to have made a few trips back in the 1960’s through your beautiful country, shorter trips then I had hoped for because of my military time.

So; if you can use anything on the post, ‘Go For it’ my friend.

I will never state if any other true traditional tribe is right or wrong because their ceremonies are their ceremonies our ceremonies and our ceremonies.

First; the only one that knows the guilty is Leonard Peltier and the person actually pulling the trigger! (09/13/2021)

Second; we over on the Northeasters part of this our land use two pouches!

Now as to the different in a pouch, it is because there was, is and will always be many tribes and until the Spanish invaded there were not even horses to travel those thousands of miles.

I write because I should only write about our family of tribes over in the Northeastern part of this our land.

One is a prayer pouch uses as stated to remember prayer to Creator!

2nd is a ‘Medicine Pouch’ used only by a ‘Medicine Man’ or a member of the ‘Royal Family’!

‘Creator’ has placed some things in his pouch to help remember the sick and the needy.

A ‘Medicine Woman’ is the person that knows and collects the medicine for the ‘Medicine Man’!

‘No Photos of Pouches Please’ because one does not know which is which.

However; as stated earlier questions and comments are welcome.

Please respect my Misbaha/Cross/Star of David/ Medicine Pouch

I beg my followers to please forgive this one?

I know the problem stems from the fact that before first contact there was between 5 and 10 thousand tribes in the land, thank you government for cutting that down to a few hundred!

This fact is also understandable because of the many ceremonies in many tribes and that a pouch is or is not sacred from east to west!

If you see expensive jewelry/Cross around someone’s neck – do you grab it and ask to explain?

If you see an expensive ‘Star of David’ around someone’s neck do you grab it and ask for an explanation?

If you see someone using pray beads (Misbaha), do you help yourself to a few prayers of your own?

Well; if there is a pouch around the neck of the original ‘First people of this Land’ chances are that it contains things far more important than all of the jewelry on ‘Mother Earth’ !

Please respect this?

Yes; you are encouraged to ask all of the questions you wish we just prefer that the questions are asked without your hands?

Please also notice, no photo?

East Coast Woodland Native American.

The First question I will proudly answer now,

We have it out in plain sight because it is another of many ways to remind our brothers and sisters and everyone else for that matter to pray.

Tobacco bags for requesting your native name

Welcome to my visitor from the City of Lima Ohio

requesting information as to tobacco bags for requesting your native name?

To my website

On 17 Nov, Sun, 08:19:43.

This is a very old and out of use tripod discontinued site so, I am not sure if you found what you were looking for?

First thing, I believe, that will go a long way in your request for that native name, if you are truly looking for a traditional name by a respected Spiritual Teacher?

Would be a little teaching and understanding about our culture and ceremonies?

As always I must remind you that you are visiting a site and posting about east coast tribes so the information is from our ancestors.

That said, I do know many good proud people of the great Shawnee tribe and know that their ceremonies and culture are close to ours.

First, this bag is called a pouch, this pouch is stuffed with herbs, we use Kinnick, Kinnick and it is used at all of our ceremonies.

A few sites that might be of help to you?

Tobacco (Herbs) should only be used as a gift

Eastern Woodland American Native Tobacco as a gift offering to Creator in prayer.
How and when to present a gift of tobacco to a Traditional American native?
Any and every time that one wishes to speak with an elder and/or honor an elder it should be by American native tobacco (Kinnick-Kinnick) gift.
Yes, Kinnick- Kinnick in our Friendship pipes is a gift from Creator!
Please remember, there is nothing sacred about any chemical, they are all poison so, what you would be saying if gifting tobacco to this person is, I poison you!
How much is enough tobacco to present as a gift?
How much is not as important as how one gives the gift.
First make sure that the tobacco is Eastern Woodland herb, Kinnick-Kinnick, and then remind the receiver that this gift came from Mother Earth.
Because it did come from Mother Earth it would be nice if it were wrapped in red, why red? Pouch.
Red represents women or Pouch as Mother Earth.
What is American Native Kinnick-Kinnick?
Kinnick-Kinnick is herbs collected from Mother Earth with prayer of thanks to Creator and Mother Earth!
If no Spiritual blessing herbs may be bought and sold, once it has gone through its sacred ceremony, it is a free gift!
My ancestors were simple common sense people.
Their tobacco was grown without chemicals, the ancestors did not need them!
Today our elders know that cigarettes cause cancer, even if they smoke, someone that they know and love has died a horrible death from this cancer.
Please do not insult them by an offering of a cancer causing cigarette.
Will you please use Kinnick~ Kinnick (herbs)?

"Last of the Mohegan's", he said with a grin.

What's in a Native American Name?

I had an eye doctors appointment yesterday, always an experience after a cornea transplant.

That's another story.

That was an extra tuff day because the Orlando V A is stuck in a Holden pattern

now waiting for the new V A hospital in Medical City to be built.

I needed to go to an outside doctor so, this meant a start from scratch, not a fun day for me, my driver and puppy in Orlando. Scary place.

Any how my doctor and I (great doctor) started talking about Native Americans after he spotted my pouch.

"Last of the Mohegan's", he said with a grin.

Will I was for a while.

He said that he had another person for an appointment a few days ago that said there are thousands of Mohegan's around.

I told him that, from the early 1940's ( My birth) until the late 1970's there was never more than 13 families at the tribal monthly meeting.

After congress passed some funny laws and people built casinos, Mohegan's and Pequot's came out of the woodwork?

Strange thing wouldn't you say?

Next we went into the life of our first Sachem, Uncas.

The Last of the Mohicans James Fennimore Cooper.

This is a fictional story about a great friendship between Hawkeye, the White Man, and Chingachook, the chief of the Mohegan's?

The name is not spelled the same.

However, no one knows or seems to care, just like, where did all of those long ago dead Indians come from?

Must have also come from a fiction?

Gifting by an American Native to an American Native.

The Traditional Eastern Woodland Native American ( American Native) way of gifting is not all that complicated when you think about it.

If one is not sure of who, what, when, where or how to gift, side with caution.

Get some Kinnick, Kinnick (herbs) placed into a small red pouch, walk up to the person that you wish to gift and from your left hand to that persons left hand, give that gift.

Now, if you have another gift in mind other then the herbs, explain this other gift and make the offer at the time.

For your gift, the herbs can be ones found growing around where ever you happen to be at the time and have been the type that have grown for years, Google herbs in the area.

Or if you wish, just go out and buy some.

American Natives throughout the years have found the your heart is more to your left side then you're right, so the left hand is the closest to your heart, this gift therefore comes from your heart.

Who to gift, anyone that you wish to gift.

What to gift, after the herbs, anything that you own and wish to gift.

When to gift, sometime after you decide to gift and are around the person you wish to gift, if possible this person should be alone at the time of gifting.

Where to gift, anyplace that is convenient for both at the time of gift giving.

How to gift, always from your heart to that persons heart.

Remember, Traditional Natives do not hoard, they may keep for a time if it is personal, it seems to be built into our gene's that Creator gifted to us freely therefore we wish to gift freely,

If you do not what your gift given away by the receiver of that gift, better not to gift in the first place.
