Sachem/Sagamos/Sagamore

Sachem/Sagamos/Sagamore in a casino?

Welcome to West Newton Massachusetts

Your question was

What is the difference between Sachem and Sagamore member at mohegan sun?

Please remember that different tribes have different language.

For instance all New England tribes were Matriarch however now some northern tribes are not.

I am not sure what the Mohegan Casino has to do with this question however, here’s thinking that they must have the same question and answer on their website?

This was asked on my discontinued site at

Sachem/Sagamos/Sagamore

so I will reprint here then add an answer on this posting site.

From time to time I need to correct things being told as the truth over the internet.

A Sachem in the Pequot/Mohegan and other New England tribes is loosely translated to as or referred to as a king by the Europeans after first contact.

A Sagamos like in the Penobscot and Narragansett people that came from the Terrytoons or tribes of the north are also known as their leaders, this group of people are not of a Matriarch society and came down from Canada centuries ago, some even came down a few years ago.

I am guessing that is why their leaders always wear a Plains Indian head dress when in front of cameras?

A Sagamore is a sub chief or anyone within a true New England tribe that is given a position of reasonability by their Sachem and or Head Clan Mother.

They maintains that sub chief (Sagamore) title for as long as the job is being performed as in the title war chief or public relations chief!

Because the New England tribes before first contact were a matriarch people men and women could and do hold this position of authority as needed.

In order to correctly study and understand the true leaders of American native people one must study them long before our language was changed to suit outsiders since the middle of the 1980's.

The greatest lessons in life

From my experience of hundreds of children, I know that they have perhaps a finer sense of honor than you or I have.
The greatest lessons in life, if we would but stoop and humble ourselves, we would learn not from grown-up learned men, but from the so-called ignorant children.

I SAID “SAY THANK-YOU!

kanjidao ( Our word for prayer)
I had a very pleasing kanjidao ( talk with our Creator) late last night.
I added the word OUR, because you all came up in this prayer.
As always I went through all of my list of things that I wished to discuss in prayer, when out of the blue the words came to me, ” Say Thank-you”!
Of course I immediately said thank-you Creator?
Again “say Thank-you”!
Again Thank-you Creator!
I SAID “SAY THANK-YOU!
Not to me to all of your friends I am having you write too.
Creator was letting me know that I have been a little selfish while writing these past few months.
I wish to thank all of the people that have come to visit my postings while I stumble through this blogger, posting the well of our Creator.
Sometimes you are silent, I know that this is because I tend to go off on a subject far too strong.
Sometimes you just click LIKE.
Sometimes you click on a few Stars.
Sometimes you even write a few words of encouragement however, each time, you full my heart with your love and understanding and this gives me the courage to continue on with the words of our elders, now ancestors and tax the patience of Creator.
As you must have seen by now sometimes I have a language barrier, a little trouble with English and I even stump spell check now and again, but you stick in there in spite of me?
Taw-but-ni ( Thank-you all)

Prayer Rock (GOT YA)!

If you did not get the opportunity to read this old website, you are too late!
This is just another of thousands of ways money can change our history by people that do not wish for you to know the truth!
Think about that when you go to vote!
You may think that this is no big deal, removing important web addresses, changing the name of a rock, giving native land to another without permission, selling land that is not your to sell and so on however, with these thousands of little changes since the 1970s outsiders end up with enough money to buy votes and/or change history!
Libraries in towns around our land once full of information, are now void with cobwebs on the shelf's.

While scanning through my visits from people looking for the truth on the internet about the Natives Americans of this country
I found this question Cochegan?
and this link for their answer!
The problem with this information is that it is incorrect!
Read the complete website and see?
Of course the website no longer goes to that site, I wonder why? :-)
We no longer use dial up by EarthLink.
Silent Doug seems to be silent?
Their website is also now silent?

I am so old that I can remember that after a hand shake one would rather cut off that hand then the agreement!
Now if you shake hands on an agreement you had better be holding both hands, you never know what the other hand is doing?

A true Sacred Naming Ceremony

From our Information page.
A very old elder ( now ancestor) in my Grandfather tribe once told me
that ” The only dumb question is the question that you think of, but are
afraid to ask!”
The question (by no means dumb) is
I am an elementary school teacher and we study the People of the Eastern Woodland. We give a historic overview and emphasize their modern presence. We study naming traditions of different tribes and have created a “naming ceremony,” in which students receive names. It’s very serious and solemn and with the intention of experiential learning. Do you think this is something disrespectful that we shouldn’t do?
Our answer is
If this is a serious request, sorry but we get so much spam, I would be glad to help you.
Every teacher gets a lot of leeway and to the head of the class from this tribal family!
By teaching this subject make it a point that your students know that their classroom tribe (class room) is for the school year and that you are their classroom chief (teacher). Our tribal clan will help as much as you want if you just ask questions.
Remember
A true Sacred Naming ceremony, like all of our Sacred Ceremonies is just that, SACRED!
Thank-you for asking for help.
Just think of this your study as a religious person would teaching your students how your God wrote the ten commandments or Jesus and the cross.
After all this name is a sacred prayer name for a personal communication with our ( Creator) God!
It is no joke!
We hope that you know that there are thousands of phony’s teaching phony ceremonies, this is why we are writing on our bloggers, postings and websites.
