Medicine person at Grand Entry

Because I made the statement I guess now I must explain why I said this medicine man in grand entry. Calling out?

Because I was brought up in a Traditional family and grow up at a time when Paw paus was the ceremony of choice over powwow, I was use to ceremonies treated as a family affair!

Please remember, powwow or paw paus, they are both a dancing prayer with Creator.

Every veteran is invited, nay encouraged to join in, native or not.

This means that after the entry dance into the circle (sacred circle) and before the veterans dance, we have a prayer asking Creator to bless the gathering and come enjoy our fellowship!

This is all good however, we must keep in mind that our elders, veterans and non veterans are now standing at attention and we old people can no longer do this if some bag of wind is out there just to pat himself or herself on the back because they are such good speakers.

Creator loves all of creation and always has an eye on everything. No need to keep trying to get Grandfathers attention, Creator will attend after your prayer, long or to the point!

So with this in mind just say your prayer, get the elders out and into their chairs then go have your long winded prayer, please?

Very important, Creator does not care if you think that you can or cannot dance, no one can dance better then Creator however, Creator just loves dancing with you, so close your eyes and allow Creator to lead, you will enjoy this dance for the rest of your life, I promise!

How everyone can have their own Sacred (blessed) Herbs!

Some of our herbs are used in our ceremonies, some are used for healing.

This should get the attention of all of those wannabe people selling so called Sacred herb to the unknowing public!

Hundreds of years ago it was necessary to have a Medicine Man, a Medicine Women, a Chief, a Sachem, Clan Mother, Warriors and so on, each had their own job helping the tribe, communication was by drum, smoke signals runners and so on.

In today's fast paced world with computers the world is a much smaller place because of the ease of communication.

Today's medicine people must hide their information because of the thousands of  unscrupulous people that only want to make money off of your lack of knowledge about herbs!

Remember, the only way to know that a Medicine Mans is in fact a Medicine Man is to catch him doing his job, a bragger is just that, a bragger, nothing else!

The work of a Medicine person, as with any other member of a tribe around the world was never a secret to be kept from the rest of the people?

Any native man worth his salt will tell you the same thing "behind every worthy man is a worthy women pushing, pulling, nagging, and teaching him along the correct path!

In other words, a Medicine Man receives his medicine from a Medicine Women, the Medicine Women goes out to find the herb, collects the correct herbs, mixes them correctly and gives them to the Medicine Man, both of them in a ceremony ask Creator for the blessing of the herbs, so to be correctly taught, go to your Medicine Women first!

While it is always a good thing to read books on herbs and all that has been learned about them, trust only your people to teach the ancestors ways.

While on the subject of herbs, Seaweed ( as was discussed in an earlier posting) has been a staple in the mix of herbs all up and down the east coast however, we never mix poisons into a mix as being done by Euro Americans today!

After you collect or buy herbs that you wish to use in your ceremony and only if you have a pure heart, in other words you are not one of those thousands of wannabe's out to get your hands into the public's pockets, all you need to do is find a quiet place out of sight of the public and ask Creator to bless your herbs so that you can use them in your ceremonies!

It is OK to sell herbs, one can NEVER sell Sacred, Blessed, Herbs, just too make more money from the public, Creator is watching!

It is always good to sell and teach herbs to help in healing!

O.K. so what is this Barrier Island and why is it so important to never build on them?

With this barrier in place many people on the main land would not have had much of this damage, loss of power homes!

As long as we keep paying people to keep rebuilding on these Islands, Mother Nature is going to keep wiping them out!

I do not want to see people needlessly dying or injured nor do I want this country to keep setting them up for another attack by storms.

I believe that this country can make an honest bid on their land and help them build elsewhere however, if they still insist on building on this Barrier land they should do so at their own expense?

Yes, this sounds cruel but it can save their lives!

I played high school football (Nose Tackle) at 5’11” 129 Lbs.

3rd year my mother and doctor contacted the school and ended that, this saved my body and properly my life, same thing with this Barrier Island?

It was time to decide to move to Florida full time (medical reasons) and become a Floridian (1999).

As a diehard UCONN (men & women) fan this was a real hard sell.

Looking first at NCAA football, at that time it was a Gator (University of Florida) or a Seminole (University of Florida State)?

As a lover of endangered animals ( Alligators) and a proud Traditional American Native, again this was a hard decision, that is until I started checking into the schools and their history!

University of Florida, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is called the Swamp, gators live in swamps, it is located in Gainesville, same as my VA Hospital, Mascot, a funny fluffy set of gators- Albert and Alberta.

As a high school player adult fan of football I never did like the way this coach ran up scores on all opponents, the school is up in the panhandle, this house is in central Florida.

As a lifelong Traditional Native American I am insulted by this thing that they call their Mascot!

This Mascot- 'Indian' on a white horse with painted spots, holding a flaming spear of painted turkey feathers and a painted face of a plains Indian warrior, riding up and down the football field?

Florida State Seminole mascot

Mascot definition and meaning by Oxford University Press. Feminine diminutive of mascot (witch)! Sorry to history you but the Seminole tribe is not Native Floridian!

The Native Floridians were killed off long ago, the Seminole people were hunter south by the Euro American soldiers and their villages is of all places in the swamps of south Florida.

My father and his father before him (my grandfather) and I have had the pleasure of visiting with this great group of people a number of time on our National Day of Mourning.

The Clan Mothers always treat everyone as their family, they also serve good food!

This day (NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING) is so called because, before first contact native life was very laid back.

Yes, by today's standard, it seemed strange, hard and slow however, you could send your child out to play without a fear of child abusers, murders and drug pushers!

The first thing encountered was a species of rat found over in Europe that stored poison in its urine.

This poison wiped out the complete village at contact after just a few weeks.

Then came Christopher Columbus and guns!

A few years later came Smallpox in free blankets from the Euro American soldiers!

Now we have Casino Indians, a select group of people put into a reservation by this Euro American government!
