This is GREAT, brings back memories of the many trips through out Indian country while visiting schools, powwows, gatherings and tribal lands all of those years of my youth.

I have been looking for some of these photo’s lost in one of my older computers, destroyed by the phone company while they were hooking up Wi-Fi down the road!

Bridgeport Public Schools Bridgeport, Connecticut

Welcome Bridgeport Public Schools
I have a question for you
before I answer your question.
Why is there a fire in any circle at powwows?
Guess what.
Want a shocking discovery

about the ceremonies
of the native people around your area?
Keep on reading.
Welcome to the student from Bridgeport Public Schools
Bridgeport, Connecticut
To
One of many of our posts
about the Native Americans
in and/or around your school.
Fire-keeper
09/30/2013
It is a good day when I open my tracker
to find any school system looking for
‘true information about
Indian and/or Native American Country culture/Ceremonies'.
However
Not to be too selfish,
it is a better day
when the question is about our people,
the first people of this land
(Native Americans).

NOW
For my question,
‘Fire in a circle?
If you check the internet,
there are thousands of posting about Indians
(Native to the Land),
some are even written by Native People!
The ancestors of the Native People around your state
(New England Area),
‘did not have a fire in a circle’
at their gatherings!
First
The Fire at our gatherings represents
(Creator)!
Creator is not on the land in question.
Although always watching,
Creator wants to be invited to join creations for a dance or two.
In the ‘Gathering of the people’ (Paw-paus), the fire was ‘always’ in the West, the opening to the circle is ‘always’ from the East.
One would go to the West, pray for a blessing and then go to the East.

If you wish more information?

Please just ask.

Keeper of the Fire After Grand Entry

Assuming that the fire is now started and Grand Entry, Flag song, Veterans honor and so forth are now going on.

Fire Keeper, not to be confused with the Keeper of the Circle unless one person is assigned to do both, now becomes an invisible, for lack of an English word, fire feeder, to me the most important job or job of joy during the gathering, sitting with Kiehtan?

If everything from my last posting is completed correctly and we are talking Paw paus and some earlier powwows, your circle is now ready for the Firekeeper prayers for a blessing from Kiehtan and a visit.

Firekeeper/Keeper of the Circle

Kiehtan has come to visit with the people so the Firekeeper and assistants must keep the fire going for the length of the Paw-paus or powwow.

The first thing we must understand before going any further would be that only Creator can bless anyone or anything, I cannot emphasize this enough times!

Only Creator (Kiehtan) can bless.

Blessings come down to Mother Earth, never up from her or any creations!

If the smudging of the circle is done correctly you should feel a peace of mind and a need to fellowship while in your circle.

Remember the bucket of shame at the east from the last posting?

You were asked, if you wanted, to put all bad thoughts into this bucket and Kiehtan removed them so now stand by for your blessing, if you are a believer?

My three favorite words are “Before first contact.”

Paw-paus fire, as stated in earlier postings is at the west out on the grounds someplace convenient so now smudging can commence without disturbing dancers and attendants.

For many years after this first contact the fire was also in the west because as you may know if you have been to these newer age gatherings, the East is clogged up for far too long while the head veteran is lining up the flags and veterans, dancers are making ready to enter and many others are standing around in the way waiting for their time to be smudged.

This cannot look good to outsider visitors?

How not to get native Americans into your churches

Just another reason to show non natives why it is so hard to get native Americans into your religious churches.

Yesterday someone wrote to tell me that no one could truly except Jesus ( the Christian Jesus)and get into heaven without also a love for religion and belong to a church!

I’m guessing that person has been reading some of my blogs.

This time it was from a well known politician and just happened to be a Catholic.

Native Americans are not blaming that religion, because it would seem that each religion feels the same way?

If you do not belong to their church, you are wrong and condemned forever in some evil place!

This above statement goes against everything that I have found while reading their religious books, this includes their bibles, because each religion seems to have a different bible and or books?

However, in each Christian bible that I have been reading is this same statement.

Jesus said, “I am the way, truth, and life. No one can get to the Father [God] except through me.”

PERIOD!

Native Americans and non natives, believe that it is consoling to fellowship, we have gatherings, paw-paus and powwows, you have a building?

However, there is only one Judge for humanity!

POWWOW or PAW-PAUS?

OK
Thanks for reminding me to write about our Evil One!
What is this Powwow?
What is a Traditional American native paw~paus?
This depends, are you looking for a calendar of events, or the true meaning of these words?
In today's thinking a powwow is a place where Native Americans invite everyone to enjoy a day, a weekend, a week, or more in fun and games.
Let it be known that we have nothing against a religious belief in Witches, Warlocks or Shamanism, at their ceremonies.
Back before first contact, before the Europeans made it necessary for the people to change the gatherings of the people. American native people held gatherings called Paw-paus.
( Pa~~Wa~~us).
Soon after first contact and because the Europeans were starting to get extremely mean and pushy at wanting into this very spiritual event, the Sachem’s of the New England tribes came together to find a fast safe way out of this situation.
A quick note.
Long before this first contact our ancestors knew of an evil Shaman warlock/Witch that practice Shamanism. This Shaman warlock/witch name was called powwow and was extremely evil.
The Sachem’s of these true American native people placed the problem in the hands of their Tribal clan mothers ( Head Clan Mother).
After many debates about the problem the clan mothers came up with the name powwow and a great explanation as to why it should be used.
It would seem that our invaders acted very much like this Sharman so, why not start having a gathering like our paw-paus and invite them all?
(A dance with the Sharman (Evil one).
The problem in this day, that was unforeseen by our ancestors, is that now many of these powwows are infested with shamans, witches and warlocks, some now are even running this gathering!
This would be a very good reason to explain why no American Traditional Native advertises when and where we are holding our Paw-paus!
Be very afraid of the spirit man or woman powwow, in our Native American Gathering of the people!
The Evil spirit Trickster ( Coyote ) and his sub spirit will do anything a person allows them to do, to the take native prayers from them ( the people ) to Creator.

Naming Ceremonies

Native American naming ceremonies

This past month (December) there was a change at the top of my Native American teaching blog questions.

Questions about native American naming was by far the most asked about question.

Are you wondering why?

Because of a life time of powwows, paw-was, and gatherings (from 6 to 71 years) I believe the answer lies in the fact that Indian country is now infiltrated with far too many phony Medicine men and women looking for ways to part you from your money!

A true Traditional Native American Elder charged with the burden of receiving names from Creator to a new follower, must never charge for doing Creators business, NEVER!

If there is a charge, you are facing a phony!

Let us step away from politics

Let us step away from politics a moment, OK?
I have two subjects I need to write about if you will bear with me?
Today we talk ‘Spirits’ at least my knowledge about
‘Native American Spirits’ from in and around my people!

Blood Quota!

A (DNA TEST), cannot tell Native American Roots

 07/01/2016

Both of these questions come from direct Emails
and
answered in an Email, sometimes allowed
because they are embarrassing and personal to each person.
The 1st is
Blood Quota of the ‘First People’!
There are only two groups of people on ‘Mother Earth’ that are telling their people,
that they can no longer call themselves a member of their ‘Tribal- Ancestors’?
The 1st Email from a person in a tribe,
or was a tribe before first contact and now
almost completely eliminated
by this
‘Land of the Free'
'Country of the brave’!
And both are in the United States of America!
1st
This government!

Because government could find no way to pay their bill
to the first people without digging into the money they stole from the
'First People', or to creation 'clone indians'!

And
(Their pets) ‘Casino Indians’!

Clone indians, greedy, selfish, money hungry, and not willing to share
with their 'less advantaged brothers and sisters!
One can only hope that
some of my blood is now running around
in as many as possible of those
‘Lilly White Government Officials!
And
Because I know that some is in
Their ‘pets’ that are now condemning our ancestors from living on our Land!
I,
as you my friends know,
have
“Native Blood’ (Yes Mr. Lilly-White),
Native Blood.
I also have ‘Irish Blood’ of which
I am also very proud of!
Email is from a British/Narragansett young lady!
As you might also know?
Because of where the country of Ireland is,
I am also proud of any and all blood
traveling around in this old body from Ireland neighbors.
This government now needs to know,

I actually have four (4), ‘Gold Tear Drops
plus a number of

Red Ones
from giving blood, until my heart doctors said;
No More’!
One can only hope that
some of my many ancestors blood
 (both native and non-native),
is
running around in as many as possible of those
‘Lilly White Government Officials’
 now ruling over and condemning
our ‘non-white ancestors’ from living on our Land!

Head Veteran

What is a head veteran and what does he/she do at gatherings?
First a head veteran must be a veteran, Duh!
I have been to some 'powwows' of late and one way or another found out that a head veteran was, in fact, never a veteran!
Next he/she must be a native American, there are many way to see if one is a native and a few ways to see if he/she is a veteran.
So no need to go into this, if you have been reading my past postings and many of you have, than you know my feelings about that.
To completely understand where I am coming from with sacred ceremonies like our gatherings and also see why the responsibility of a head veteran is now, but never should have been diminished, let's start with paw-paus and head veteran?
A paw- paus as with all gatherings before first contact was assigned by the Sachem through the Head Clan Mother to take full control of the event.
Like the Powwow's of today, those gatherings were started at a monthly meeting long before the event, so everyone in the tribe knew in advance what their job was.
The Sachem or Head Clan Mother assigned the Head Veterans job to the warrior with the most knowledge of the tribe to run the Paw-paus.
This person became the Chief of the gathering, so for a smooth outing everyone worked under this warrior, everyone except the Head Clan Mother!
As Sachem and many times a head veteran, I worked under the Head Clan Mother at our paw paus, less confusion from everybody!
With our people if this warrior (Head Veteran) said that you are a Native American, you are a native American!
Not only is this right, old warriors have a way with knowing just who is and who is not!
The MC with permission from the Head Clan Mother, controlled the singing, dancing and what dance at what time.
The lead drum controlled songs and which drum group drums which dance.
The Head Veteran controls everything else!
How on earth did the word 'arena director' get into a powwow?
Arena directors run rodeos, Fairs, circus, and carnivals out west someplace don't they?
East entry started after this head veteran checked that everything and everyone is ready to dance, gave the signal to the MC and unless carrying the Sacred Staff, stayed at the ready at the gate.
At a paw-paus, any bird or animal was always allowed into the circle as long as they wished to be in the circle, never tied or chained as with powwow.
If you are dancing in this type of circle and see a feather drop or spot a feather and are positive that it is only a costume feather, pick it up and carry it out of the circle with you, hand it to the head veteran, if you are not sure, protect that feather, no veteran worth his or her salt will think less of you one way or the other.
I was at a 'powwow' not so long ago and a native girl about 12ish, saw three Eagle feathers drop from an Alaskan dancers regalia, she danced over the feathers until a 'dancer' from a Canadian tribe can along picked up the feathers walked backwards through the circle and handed them to the Alaskan!
This is what our gatherings are coming to !
After things calmed down and out of sight I walked both 'men' out of the gathering!
I found the young girl and family, through a ceremony and with a blessing for Creator, handed her a prayer pouch with some of my grandfathers tobacco (Kinnick Kinnick) in it and made sure that she knew that she was 100% correct!

Could my husband participate in a Veterans Dance?

One of my friends asked a question that should have been answered long ago however, I never thought to write about it? I do not have permission to give you a name.

What a wonderful question, there are so many things I must say to all of my old, new and future friends that I am posting an answer also.

I have not been well the last few days although still trying to keep up with posting? :-(

First thing if I have not said so for awhile "Thank you for serving". As far as Native American powwows, gatherings, meetings and Paw-paus goes, I have never been to any of them that had a Veterans Dance without an invite to all veterans from any country, nation and tribe, please go into the circle, you will never be the same ever again. It is a wonderful experience to all. As I stated in my answer, if I am the Head Veteran of any of them, I do my best to get every man, women, and child into the circle for that dance. My circle's also invites your pets! We want to thank you all for serving and say something that it took 40 years for us to hear. "WELCOME HOME my brothers and sisters" and thank you families for what you were also put through, AHO

When I say any country I mean just that, through the years I have danced with warriors from most tribes and many countries such as, North and South Vietnam, Korea, China, Mexico, Canada and so on.

However, the parade that I was writing about is this my town (not a gathering).

It is trying to get a welcome home parade for any Vietnam Veteran, I believe in my area, because we, those Vietnam veterans, are the only ones not thanks for serving!

I will check however, you or your husband should contact your closes VA, see if they are going to do this also?

Prince Frederick, Maryland

Welcome to Prince Frederick, Maryland
To one of our sites/page about our ancestors ‘Gatherings’ today you might call them powwows?
I have absolutely no idea why or how you came to this site?
However; you are always welcome.
Fact for you if you did not already know, our ancestors did travel as far south as Delaware.
So I see no reason why we cannot believe that some could have crossed into Maryland.
I do remember a few elders from Delaware showing up at my grandfathers meetings and
(Objiasan Tah and I), did visit a few gatherings in Baltimore.
Remember, any questions, just ask.

Pictures of Connecticut Native Americans

Welcome to
Wallingford Connecticut
to my old discontinued website
looking for pictures of Connecticut Native Americans?
I know your problem, after a life time of being involved with our people around the New England area.
These last few years of “so called Woodland New England powwows” are a stretch of the ancestors imagination when called Connecticut natives!
My webmaster and I have been hard at work writing blogger posting while trying to keep the old traditional ways alive for you to remember.

Why do Native Americans pray to the creator?

Welcome to the visitor from Independence Missouri
To one of my posting looking for
Pictures of Native Americans Praying to Creator
and
Why do Native Americans pray to the creator?
Thank you for your question.
We pray for many reasons just as most non natives do however, what I believe to be sort of a difference would be that our prayers are always in the form of talking, communication, or discussions as you might while talking to your Grandfather?
All of the time knowing that Creator created, is always listening and loves all creation.
Everyone of our ceremonies, powwows, gatherings and even our Grand Entry are a prayer.
I believe that if you ask any person of the Jewish faith you will receive about the say answer?
If you are praying to receive something it would be wise to make sure that it is something Creator has already promised?
If one is asking a question, have patience, you will get your answer in Creators time.
