Shawnee Smudging

I have had the honor of visiting a few Shawnee Villages in my past, one in Oheio (Ohio) and one in Pennsylvania come to mind.

However I am sad to say not in Oklahoma?

I understand that Oklahoma is where this government sent the majorly to 'what is called' a (Reservation).

I have enjoyed a few visits to, what some call

 'A Splinter Group'

and found the people to be well versed in their culture and very hospitable.

What I did find interesting was the similarity of culture and ceremonies between our tribes.

Remember, my better half has Shawnee Blood.

Gatekeeper in Native American

Welcome Pekin Indiana

To many of our posting on Gate Keepers

Looking for information about

Gatekeeper in Native American

And that is just the first page in my tracker so I guess that I do not need much of an answer?

Only please, as usual, remember the distance and that our ancestors culture might differ some?

I do wish to post this because of the questionable changers being made to our culture and ceremonies since the birth of "New Age Indians!"

The above sites are from the teaching from my ancestors for your reading.

What is the protocol of smudging a late person at a pow-wow

Welcome New York

To our smudging site at

Looking for

What is the protocol of smudging a late person at a pow wow

Before we get into your question with an answer from people in and around your area, I must correct a few things found in Wikipedia?

According to our ancestors around New York and New England that came to my grandfathers monthly meetings for many years, the person that gave this information to Wikipedia has made a few mistakes?

Their answer?

A pow wow (also powwow, pow-wow or pau wau is a gathering of some of North America's Native people.

The word derives from the Narragansett word powwaw, meaning "spiritual leader".

Our answer!

First, also according to the ancestors, the Narragansett's are a tribe that came down from another country many years ago.

Therefore not a true traditional New England Tribe.

So, the word Pow-wow (Paw-Paus) in tribes around our area, New York/New England, call the Demon Spirit "Pow-wow" not a Spiritual Leader!"

AND

This is why I say in my posting answers, "it depends on the area of a tribe?

AND

The protocol of smudging a late person at a pow-wow is up to the Head Veteran and how late?

A true traditional Head Veteran will smudge you, if you ask, no matter when you wish to be smudged?

"If not the Shechaim Ohjieshan will."

Native Spirituality how does one become an elder

This question came from Canada and some times the culture changed from country to country even though our ancestors had no boundaries (Borders) and tribes often did visit one another, plus you did come to my site first so I am writing?

Welcome Regina Saskatchewan Canada

What is an elder?

Looking for information about

Native Spirituality how does one become an elder

This is a twofer question and I would like to answer them both?

Spirituality

American Native Spirituality

People are always writing out on the internet that our belief is a religion and I tell you that from what I have been seeing lately, nothing can be further from the truth!

A true Traditional Native American believes in our "Creator" we have no need to enter a building for prayer, nothing right or wrong with entering a building to pray, we just treat prayer as speaking to our Grandfather, Creator (Mohiigan's call Kiehtan) wherever and whenever?

To me Spirituality means Fear (Love) Kiehtan and Kiehtan Created everything, so if something is wrong, Kiehtan will fix it, one needs to ask?

On the other hand if we are wrong or doing something wrong, Kiehtan will also fix that, one way or the other so do not do wrong and get on with speaking 'prayer' to correct your mistake!

Becoming an Elder

What is an elder?

An elder in a Native American Eastern Woodland Tribe is anyone older then you.

That said, "to become an Elder with authority with-in the tribe one must be an Elder well versed in our culture, ceremonies and the tribe

'No matter the age' adopted or family!

Just because one became old does not make that person knowledgable in our ways to answer your question.

Mind you that one very important answer is

"I do not know let us go find out?"
