Helsinki, Southern Finland

Welcome to the visitor from
Helsinki, Southern Finland, Finland
To one of our postings about our wedding ceremony

Native American Wedding Ceremony (Traditional)

6/9/11

Mind you, my friend, nothing done in our culture (ceremonies), with our Tobacco (Kinnick-Kinnick), is for pay.

That said, while it is not mandatory it is a good act of kindness to the Spiritual Leader.

Because

A good Traditional Spiritual leader uses a lot of tobacco

(Kinnick-Kinnick)

and

charges you nothing for the service.

So yes because a good traditional Spiritual leader is always in need of the herbs (Kinnick~ Kinnick).

Also

Remember that our tobacco is a group of herbs, picked by one or more of our clan mothers, handed to a Spiritual leader and blessed by our Creator (Kiehtan) we call (Kinnick-Kinnick).
If one wishes to honor the Spiritual Leader,

The correct way to gift an American Native is from your left hand to their left hand.

If the gift is words, then from your mouth with your left hand to the left shoulder of that person, which you should know is the closest to the heart.

If the gift is too big, then your left hand to your heart, straight out pointing at the gift or gifts.

It is very easy to spot a real Traditional Native American.

They are the ones constantly giving something away.

If you choose to gift a true American Native, and you do not want that person giving it away, do not give it to them.

As a young native a wise old native told me , " Once you give something to me, it is mine, you cannot tell me what to do with it".

"Once I give something to you it is yours, never ask if I want it back, now you go do the same".

If at any time an American Native is thought to have a religion, this would be it.

We believe that everything on Mother Earth is a free gift from Creator to all creatures, so if it is a free gift from Creator to all creatures, then it was predestined to be given away.

If Creator wishes you to have it, then it will be coming back.

Tobacco, Herbs, Kinnick-Kinnick

Welcome to the visitor that came directly to one of our postings from Milwaukee Wisconsin

To
Herbs, Kinnick, Kinnick is our Tobacco

As you may or may not know, according to my elders, now ancestors, our people over in the east coast (Mohiigan's) and yes as of lately our tribe has been given many names?

Our tribe came to this land in the north eastern part of Indian country from around your area.

And because of the abuse after first contact, many traveled back west.

Both to and from was such a long time ago that tribes in and around your area may have some different ceremonies by now?

However, for as far back as my knowledge while picking my elders brains, our tobacco was always a mix of many herbs, no chemicals, called Kinnick-Kinnick.

Because we are of a Matriarch society, our Medicine women find, pick, clean and prepare the herb to make ready for our Medicine man.

In other words, 'Chemical Cigarettes' are taboo and by using them in any type of our ceremony is an insult to our people,  your knowledge, any elder, anyone that you wish to gift and most of all to Kiehtan our Creator!

I do hope that this is of some help?
If not questions are always welcome.

Kinnick - Kinnick

Welcome to the visitor from the town of Hillsborough North Carolina

What is Kinnick, Kinnick?

Looking for information about our herbs called Kinnick - Kinnick.

Because I have covered this so many times and I did see that you were on one of my many postings, I was going to pass and go to the next question. However, while checking other answers that you were reading, this I must not do without a brief answer. Yes real tobacco grown as a plant is an herb and is included into this Kinnick - Kinnick, remember our tobacco as with all of our herbs is NEVER treated with chemicals and when we speak of smoking our pipes, it is always in a ceremony, not smoked like as in a cigarette or cigar? Most participants in our ceremonies will puff enough smoke a number of times to blow a prayer up towards Creator, down to Mother Earth and so on. Some of the participants will tap the pipe with their left hand and pass it on, a few very brave members might even inhale? I do not recommend this un necessary abuse on your body!

Tobacco bags for requesting your native name

Welcome to my visitor from the City of Lima Ohio

requesting information as to tobacco bags for requesting your native name?

To my website

On 17 Nov, Sun, 08:19:43.

This is a very old and out of use tripod discontinued site so, I am not sure if you found what you were looking for?

First thing, I believe, that will go a long way in your request for that native name, if you are truly looking for a traditional name by a respected Spiritual Teacher?

Would be a little teaching and understanding about our culture and ceremonies?

As always I must remind you that you are visiting a site and posting about east coast tribes so the information is from our ancestors.

That said, I do know many good proud people of the great Shawnee tribe and know that their ceremonies and culture are close to ours.

First, this bag is called a pouch, this pouch is stuffed with herbs, we use Kinnick, Kinnick and it is used at all of our ceremonies.

A few sites that might be of help to you?

Although I have not as yet been blessed to visit gathering in your beautiful city or state for that matter, one can be sure to find differences in the culture and ceremonies, given the distance and the means of travel by our ancestors.

Welcome to Arvada, Colorado

Welcome to
our/my
visitor
from
Arvada, Colorado

Although time and distance will prove to be a hiccup
between our culture and ceremonies,

And

The culture and ceremonies of tribes around your area.

I personally wish to thank you for your question.

You see,
my post is in need of a few explanations.

The following is my way to help understand

(Tobacco),
in our culture.

Creator created the 'Tobacco Plant' as I am sure that you will agree,
'along with everything else'!

Man placed poison chemicals into tobacco
just to hook humans on their type of tobacco.

Therefore, with this knowledge fresh in our minds,
creator also created all herbs.

We in our area of Native American Country, mix herbs,
along with the herb tobacco,
into our

prayer pouches.

And

In our little corner of
Native American Country,
we believe that Creator created herbs
for the free use by humans.

Therefore, we use herbs in our ceremonies for free.

You replacing our herb is
in no way mandatory or expected.

However,
it is a way to gift an elder.

And

Last but by no means least, all prayers are for a blessing from our Creator to someone or something.

As always, on the way down from Creator the blessings also are a blessing to the person making the prayer request!

This is the old post.

I welcome all question and Thank you for this one.

Before we get to the answer, I remind everyone that the only thing that I am an expert at is, remembering the things that were drilled into my head by my ancestor!
One must also remember that even now after First Contact, Rat Poison, and Small Pox (another posting coming soon) there are still over five thousand tribes around Indian Country, some recognized by this government some are not!
This question is about Smudging .
Grandmother Tribal Elder Virginia Graverette Pigeon is a great teacher, I would be please to get to know her, she follows her ancestors knowledge, culture and ceremonies. Her people are in central country, mine are in eastern country.
As with the many tribes, there are many ways of remembering our culture and ceremonies, as she teaches, there is no wrong way to smudge, and as my ancestors like to say, "Smudging is another way to Pray"!
Her statement right at the beginning
"Some people follow the Traditional Way and some follow the Christian Way and that one way respects the aspects of both ways. Both know one God".
I am one of those believers in both ways!
Smoked the Pipe of Peace, our people call it a Friendship Pipe.
Remember that as with my people, tobacco was and still is grown in and around our land however, it was never treated with chemicals we mix it as one of the Herbs called Kinnick, Kinnick!
The four sacred herbs, tobacco, sweet grass, sage, and cedar.
We did not know about sage or sweet grass until my grandfather (Sachem Tallfox) made one of his many trips out west in the 1930's.
We now include, with permission, each along with our Kinnick, Kinnick.
Sachem discussed our Kinnick, Kinnick and their herbs with their elder, both agreed the use of all of them would be acceptable in prayers.
Smudge the room
The smudges around the room depends with the tribes own beliefs. For example, the original traditional people like the Creek, Pequot's, Mohegan's up and down the east coast, dance and walk counted clock way, the occult up and down the east coast dance and walk clock ways, it all depends on the group of people however, the East is where everything in Indian country always starts. We make sure that everything being smudged is taught as a prayer, everything smudged is blessed by Creator.

Mohegan tribe used sage

Welcome to my neighbor down in Boca Raton Florida?

To a few of our posting while looking for information about the Mohegan Tribe?

It doesn't look as though service providers did your question justice?

It sent you to

Smudging the correct way

Our sacred prayers at ceremonies

No matter at least you were sent to a site with a little knowledge about those people up north.

Try this site while I take a shot at your question?

What is Kinnick~Kinnick?

December 1, 2012 /sachemspeaks

The natives up in the Eastern Woodlands Area of New England and the area around it, did not do Sage or Sweet-Grass.

That is until after one of my grandfathers visits out to the plains Indians in the 1940s.

While on that visit he, as told to me by my elders, was introduced to Sacred Sage and Sweet-Grass and he introduced his new friends to Kinnick-Kinnick.

The point that we must always remember is, it is not as important as to how one prays or what instruments used while praying, as it is to remember to pray and pray often!

You see, the whole idea of Sage, Sweet-Grass, Kinnick- Kinnick or whatever you so chose to use in a ceremony, is to get 'one to one' with your Supreme Being (Creator) or in the New England Area, Kiehtan!

If this did not answer your question, please write?
I like it when you write comments.
I love it when you have question.
Hope that this is of some help to you?

American Native Wedding Family

Words from a Native American wedding ceremony?
At a time when the couple is ready and the wedding party is set around the prayer alter each in turn may exchange their love and vowels to each other, the female has the choice as to who will start first.
The Spiritual leader performing the blessed event, in our tribe, will first speak to Creator in our tongue, then English for each section of the wedding ceremony.
The words chosen by the couple with the acceptance are not as important as the words by the couple and the tribal sacred words from the Spiritual leader to the couple and Creator, what the words are of course is a very guarded secret sacred ceremony.
The Eastern Woodland American Native Wedding Ceremony, this must be said because this is only speaking about our people.
There are still over 500 tribes in Indian Country
That have permission to be recognized and at least as many that the government is still trying to eliminate by not recognizing.
There are about 500 ways they may have to their native weddings; I have been to many of them.
Our wedding ceremony, a Traditional Wedding, should be something like many of the others however; it is not like the Funeral ceremony, because the public may enjoy the complete ceremony with the permission of the couple.
The beginning and ending prayer, like most sacred prayers should never be recorded, this is the leader and the couples request for marriage to Creator and thanks to Creator after the ceremony.
The prayer can be filmed just not the words. Only the Spiritual leader and the couple need the Creators blessing at the beginning, Creator at the end of the ceremony will bless everyone.
If you are being groomed for our ceremony please understand, this can take from a few days to at least a month.
By studying correctly you will knowing that you will be blessed, remember; only Creator can bless!
Someone, in the favor with the couple, should gift a blanket; this person must also attend at least some of the pre ceremony.
Everyone gifting at the time of and with the permission of the Spiritual leader and the couple should attend at least some of the pre ceremony.
Sometimes the families and/or friends wish to gift a Turtle Rattle, Regalia, Headpiece, Sage, Sweet grass, and/or Tobacco for the ceremony.
As with the funeral ceremony, both families can asked to help with the meal after.
Anyone asked to, can join in the meal and whatever plans after the wedding.
Native American pre marriage ceremonies
The pre marriage meetings for our people is not a requirement for marriage, it is a request from the spiritual leader.
At this meeting the couple and any member of the soon to be wedding, will learn everything that will take place on that blessed day, the couple and any person directly involved will then know what is expected of them by Creator during the wedding.
The couple will learn where to stand and why, will learn about the regalia and why it is used and all of the sacred blessings from Creator through your ancestors.
That said, please remember, whatever happens during the wedding will not be judged, after all it is a fun, loving, first day for the rest of your lives.

Sacred Naming Ceremony Protocol.

If you are looking for an Indian name look into an India blog.

If you are looking for information about Native Americans, this is one of many blogs.

Please enjoy reading the information.

Why do we have a naming ceremony?

Well?

Why do Christians have baptisms?

Our naming ceremonies are our way to introduce a person to Creator.

If accepted, Creator will name this person this is why all of our ceremonies are so sacred!

This is also why traditional elders and spiritual leaders get so unset when they hear,

"I just came from so and so and he/she gave me my Indian name!"

It will take at least two weeks before a person hears that Creator has given you your tribal name,

Not because Creator is, busy,

But because Creator will wait for you to humble yourself enough before the people to get that name!

My PEOPLE,

" WE NEED TO TAKE BACK OUR OWN ANCESTORS, NOW "!

I have stated many times before in blogs and websites that I have nothing for or against any religion, this includes Witchcraft,

I have many good friends in most of these religions, that is until that religion tries to change our culture

and/or our ceremonies,

if this is tried, it becomes personal!

My first encounter with people that worship another god.

The Eastern Woodland Sacred Creator Blessed Pawpaus.

At a naming ceremony or any other Traditional Eastern Woodland Ceremony for that matter,

a Spiritual leader will ask the couple if they wish a Sacred Pawpaus Creator included ceremony.

If, after explaining what that entails the couple say yes, from that point on preparations are being made, for this type of a ceremony.

It no longer matters where or when it takes place, it is a Sacred ceremony that will be blessed by Creator!

When it comes time for the couple to pick their four corners

( four tribal clan mothers)

and all other members of the gathering, the Spiritual leader will once again remind and explain to all that this is

an Sacred Eastern Woodland Pawpaus ceremony.

Because of this it does not matter how a Witch, Warlock, Sorcerer, powwow, or any tribe performs a ceremony,

this is a Pawpaus,

if you have a problem please help the couple find your replacement.

If after the ceremony starts one or more of the corners walks away, they then show their true beliefs in their (God).

I have been able to call out many a phony because of this!

First and the most important thing would be to make sure that you are an American native,

or correctly adopted,

to find this out contact a Traditional an elder.

The traditional way to make a request to receive your American Native name is to give a gift of herbs

(Kinnick--Kinnick).

Tobacco, Herbs, Kinnick-Kinnick

08/11/2015

)

as the request is made to the person you are requesting the name from

( Spiritual leader) if it is a Pawpaus.

You and your family may also wish to plan a meal to celebrate after the ceremony is completed.

If others are receiving their names, the covered dishes, should be shared.

Present a gift of herbs from your left hand to the left hand of the individual you are wishing to receive a name from,

this is called, heart to heart.

This person should be a person you respect and should be someone who is an American Native elder

from the nation that you are requesting a name if possiable.

Personally ask if you may make a request of this person, either in person, by phone, e-mail or other.

Receive this individual's consent to allow you to make a request.

At this time you may wish to honor a male and a female with this herb

and request that they stand with you as sponsors at the ceremony.

These should be individuals that are familiar with that American Native Tribe

and this sacred ceremony.

A naming ceremony should, but not always, be held in a prayer circle.

A Sacred Pawpaus is always held in a Sacred circle with a fire, both of which must be properly prepared.

(Honor the prayer circle with appropriate attire and attitudes).

Regalia should be worn if available, if not proper dress.

Give thanks to the Creator and all the sponsors.

One should NEVER have to pay for any American Native gift;

If you do ,the gift will be void, and so will the ceremony!

Remember, our Creator gave the gifts freely and so should we,

a gift like herbs or something native is permitted, and any gift can be permitted as long as it is freely given!

Please remember, there is nothing sacred about any chemical,

they are all poison so, what you would be saying if gifting tobacco to this person is, I poison you!

MY BROTHERS & SISTERS

WE NEED TO TAKE BACK OUR OWN ANCESTORS,

NOW "!

Tobacco as a gift.

The question being asked the most today is still about tobacco, so we, the Native Americans answering that question are still not answering it well enough?

Tobacco used by my ancestors, Traditional Native Americans from New England was not Cigarettes, it was, it is, and should always be herbs found or grown by the Tribal Clan Grandmother with help from the Tribal Clan Mothers.

These herbs are called Kinnick. Kinnick ( our native word for tobacco).

This tobacco is used for anything sacred like, prayer, ceremonies like naming, funeral's, weddings, powwows, gatherings, pot luck, paw, paus and so on., gifting, cleansing us and the area around us.

I have many blogs and websites about our tobacco however, if my answers leaves you with more questions please Email me at sachemuncas at centurylink.net ( It is written this way to spoil spammers spiders.

Just to name a few.

My ancestors were simple common sense people.

Their tobacco was grown without chemicals, the ancestors did not need them!

Today our elders know that cigarettes cause cancer, even if they smoke, someone that they know and love has died a horrible death from this cancer.

Please do not insult them by an offering of a cancer causing cigarette.
