Native American Day

This Friday is Native American Day.
For some it is just a day off from school or work.

For others it is just another,
but for a large population that lives very near here
this day is their day to be recognized.

There will be powwows, gatherings and celebrations filled with dancers, feathers, salmon and dried meats.

For the most part, most of us won’t even notice;

but for our neighbors, it is a day for them to embrace their heritage and traditions and try and teach us a little bit about their true ancestry.

So one this day,
I, a non-native,
will celebrate their accomplishments and their peoples’ past.

We all should, and should embrace what they have to offer us.

We should take a proper look at history and remember it for what it is and what has happened.

We don’t have to be proud of that past but we must recognize it not just on this day, but every day.

Our Native American Day
Over on the east coast
is
(Thursday, November 24), this year.

WHAT IS NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING?

An annual tradition since 1970,
Day of Mourning is a solemn, spiritual and highly political day.
Many of us fast from sundown the day before
through the afternoon of that day

(and have a social after Day of Mourning so that participants in DOM can break their fasts).

We are mourning our ancestors and the genocide of our peoples and the theft of our lands. NDOM is a day when we mourn, but we also feel our strength in political action.

Over the years, participants in Day of Mourning have buried Plymouth Rock a number of times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Day_of_Mourning_(United_States_protest)

Wannabe Tribe

Welcome Gloucester Massachusetts
To one of our postings about those pesky Wannabes?
Wannabe Native Americans

I for one do not know of a real life Traditional Wannabe Tribe, the closest I can come would be the Boy Scouts of America, not real natives, and a group up in northeastern Canada?

A wannabe, not to be confused with the many real tribes through-out Indian country that this government, for fear of the need to pay for the land that it stole and ignored by a hand full of stuck up "Tribal Nations."

Still not sure why the need for a change from tribe to nation?
Wannabe.

A person that tries to convince others to believe that he/she has native blood.

In other words a fake!

Tahtonka and I have been all over your state at gatherings, powwows and meetings however, we have been retired to Florida for years.

However, this should have nothing to do with discovering your wannabe tribe just ask many questions and the truth will show itself?

Never fear, we are only a website away.
If this did not answer your question, please write?
I like it when you write comments.
I love it when you have question.
Hope that this is of some help to you?
If not just write?

Freedom, Maine

Welcome to Freedom, Maine

To two of our postings on two of our blogs about our people

The Moiigans (Maïngan – Yáw – Wolf-People).

This first posting is a copy of our original map of what the village of Uncasvillage looked like before first contact.

The Land of Sachem Uncas in the 1600's

The original is kept under lock because it is the only one in existence and really old!

And

A Google site for writing about our people.

Back in the 1940’s and 1950’s I remember traveling throughout the New England/New York areas with my elders, most of the cold weather gatherings, powwows and Paw-paus were held in Grange halls like your Dirigo Grange in Maine.

Up until the late 1980’s (Government Controlled Casino Indians), all Native American Tribes were recognized as “Real Live People” throughout the area!

I know that we travels all over your state.

However, I am not sure if we ever stopped at your Grange Hall?

If not it was our loss.

We were members of what we left of the Maïngan (13 Families), and traveled with elders from other tribes throughout the New England/New York area.

Smudging before entering the circle

Welcome to my visitor from

Orono Maine

Looking of information about smudging before entering the circle.

To one of my many websites and blogs about smudging.

As you might feel by now, smudging is almost being written to death.

Smudging the correct way

However, if you have ever been to my trackers you would see that questions keep coming and many answers keep getting it wrong.

We must not forget that smudging, as beautiful and important as it might be, is still just another form of prayer to our Supreme Being, Kiehtan (Creator) for something?

We have been in your town many time with my Uncle Russ (Chief Rolling Thunder) on the way to his reservation.

One of our many trips.

I spent time in town while on our way to Clan Mother Nettie Smith's Crossing Ceremony some years ago now.

Orono is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States.

It was first settled in 1774 and named in honor of Chief Joseph Orono of the Penobscot Nation.

It is home to The University of Maine.

Smudging the correct way

Again, remember prayers as with this smudging, are our way to get us in a place where we try to blank out the world for a talk with our Supreme Being, no matter what God we might be on our knees before?

The original powwows before first contact (Paw-paus) were always off to the west away from distractions with room to do our smudging, in those days smudging was with Kinnick - Kinnick Herbs, our tobacco.

Traditional American Natives have a Supreme Being.

Native Americans do know a supreme being, we call this supreme being by many names, Creator, Father Sky, Grandfather just to name a few.
Creator cares for us  just like the Europeans God does.
All religions have a form of supreme being, Christians call theirs God, Jesus Christ, the one that all of the fuss is about around Christmas time!
The Jewish religion call their supreme being Lord or GOD among others.
Even most non believers have a god, theirs is called science.
However, for this posting we need to talk about the beliefs now running our powwows.
Witches, Warlocks and Shamans have their god also,
Trickster, coyote, powwow, just to name a few, only this god is the one that is fighting for our spirits in the next life.
We are believers in very different supreme being.
Therefore should never be praying or playing together!
This also means never in what you would call our church, a Sacred Circle, or any other circle with a fire in or around it and being called Native American!
Placing these two beliefs together in one place would be much worse than placing a Catholic  and Protestant service into a Synagogue during their service?

Sacred Naming Ceremony Protocol

Kingston Upon Hull Kingston United Kingdom

Native American naming ceremony

I can see from the amount of questions from search engines that a naming ceremony is still not understood by many and very much maligned by non native writers!

Protocols for a Native American Naming Ceremony

A Native American naming ceremony, as with all of our ceremonies is NOT a religious event, it is not a rituals, these are occult words not Native American!

A Naming ceremony is a prayer request to Creator, an answer from Creator and an obedience to all concerned making sure that the receiver has a native deep spiritual way to contact Creator in prayer.

It is never a show for wannabe American Natives at powwows!

Why do we have a naming ceremony?

Our naming ceremonies are our way to introduce a person to Creator.

If excepted, Creator will name this person this is why all of our ceremonies are so sacred!

This is also why traditional elders and spiritual leaders get so unset when they hear,

"I just came from so and so and he/she gave me my Indian name"!

It will take at least two weeks before a person hears that Creator has given you your tribal name, not because Creator is busy, but because Creator will wait for you to humble yourself enough before the people to get that name!

Smudging the correct way

This is one of many posting about our ceremony of smudging.
Your University sits within the land of our ancestors so
powwows, gatherings and/or Paw-paus would apply to tribes in your area,
or at least should?
If you have questions, I would be proud to answer even if the answer is
“I do not know let’s go check it out.”
Remember I am retired to Florida?

CIRCLE of LIFE?

What is this circle of life question that keeps coming up on my trackers?

I, as have many people, posted about this subject a few times however, it is still the number one question of the trackers?

I can only speak as a traditionalist elder and from teaching from my elders from the New England area.

Our circle of life started long ago while (Creator) and (Father Sky) were on one of their walks around, what we now call the universe, which was already a circle of life in of its self.

Each time they passed this, a circle of water, they paused with pride in its beauty. On one of those trips there was an agreement to speak with (Turtle Woman) about an addition for this circle of water. About going down to this circle of water and become what we now call land (Mother Earth). Mother Earth asked and received children to care for as part of this agreement, then became the mother of all creation on this new circle. We (Humans) are but a member of this creation, at no time did Creator, Father Sky or Mother Earth call us the Top of the Food Chain? Humans are but a small piece of this circle so, if we were to take away all of our weapons then see how we make out in a fight with those animals that we call our food chain?

Creator and Father Sky still circle around this universe, Mother Earth still turns in a circle and still circles around our sun which still circles around in this universe. Creation is a circle from birth (life) young growth, age and death, a circle of life.

Native American circle of life meaning.

The Circle is the oldest symbol of the world. The Circle is a reminder of our connections to Mother Earth. The sun, mood and planets travel in circles. The Circle is the symbol. Our drums are circles and the heartbeat of all people. Our gatherings, powwows and Paw-paus are held in a circle. the four corners and four directions ceremonies are through a circle. Without this circle there would be no life.

Oxymoron

A figure of speech that combines contradictory terms.

Tulsa Oklahoma

Welcome to the blogger posting asking if anyone agrees with you that the words

Native Americans is an oxymoron

When you are right you are right!

It is true that our people are also Immigrants to this land that we call Indian country, you call the America’s.

However, one small difference about your thinking compared to our way of thinking.

When our ancestors came to this land there were no humans, a lot of plant and animal life, no humans.

I still must agree with you because they surely must have looked at us as Immigrants.

Remember, the plants, animals and our ancestors, for the most part, were in homonymy with Mother Earth until the Europeans arrived.

With your way of thinking one would have to agree that First nations is an Oxymoron, and so on.

Of course Traditional Indigenous Immigrants ( our ancestors) were thinking about the way the Europeans took over the land, culture and ceremonies as an Oxymoron.

Native American Occult is an Oxymoron!

Native American Gatekeeper (an Oxymoron)?

http://mysmudgingblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/native-american-gatekeeper-oxymoron.html

Native American Arena is a big (Oxymoron)!

An arena is what is used in the big top at a circus however, I do agree that about 85% of the powwows now held around the world are a caravel an circus, fun to look at but not native.

Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Welcome to our friends from Ocean Springs, Mississippi
To one of many of our posting about our
“Sacred Circle”
(Chachu)
Native American Gate keeper?
I have little to no knowledge about the ‘Native People’ of your city/state; however it does not matter for this post.

I only write, while writing about the Native Americans of by village (Uncasvillage) and about good and bad politics.
Your beliefs are your beliefs and therefore ‘good blessing from Creator’

As far as 'Traditional Native Americans' are concerned, 'Good Politicians' care for 'Creators creation',
'Bad Politicians only care about themselves'!
For, going on 78 years Creator blessed this old native with ancestors that lived their lives in praise and prayers to Creator for blessings from Creator.
I am now challenged to keep our ancestors teaching alive in print, no matter how poorly I do this!
So Thank-you for your visit my new friend!
This is one more posting.
Native American Gate keeper?
08/07/2012
This question has been coming up many times?
The words Gate keeper is an occult religious word used in Shamanism ceremonies.
These religious organizations worship another god, most have more than one god!
There was, is and should never be a "Gatekeeper" in a true traditional Eastern Woodland Native American Ceremony!
If this is what you are interested in then there are many websites and bloggers willing to help you in your quest.
However, if you are interested in an answer about a true traditional Eastern Woodland American Native ceremony, like our Gatherings, Paw-paus and Sacred Powwows, our people never use the words gate keeper!
This would be an insult to Creator!
The person at the East, the only place to enter and exit out gatherings, is a Spiritual leader or one of his or her students, there only to help you understand our ceremonies!

A population forsaken and forgotten

This article is written by a Lakota women, Wambli Sina Win (Eagle Shawl Woman), and it is very good reading as with all of the work, please help in any way that you can, prayer is always welcome however, I would like to point out that every tribe in this country government recognized or not, has people in prisons somewhere and help for them, the jails, prisons and Department of Corrections need help also.
Just because this government does not recognize a person with blood does not mean that that person no longer exists, I have traveled around Indian country and have had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of thousands of people walking the Red Road that do not want this governments permission to be a Native American!

Not all Native Americans, especially Traditional American Natives want a casino, most just want to be left alone to do their thing, like gatherings, powwows and paw~paus. Many want the same thing any country would want.

What is a Wannabe Indian Follower?

Welcome to my visitor from Uncasville Connecticut
Your confusing statement and an answer to your question.

(I need to keep writing both 'followers and friends' because I must remind myself of the many follower, over (500) that only they know why, just keep following? And the few friends that keep in touch or like the postings?)

As I just wrote to one of my long time friends, Follower/Friends Angie (Kentucky Angel).

I started back in the early 1980's writing in DOS trying to keep my elders and ancestors alive in the hearts and minds of the Mohiigan Family because we could see that we were losing touch and or passing on (Crossing Ceremony) far too fast.

I had an old 4 MB computer and writing on Netscape and EarthLink in dial up!

:-(

Years later with a new computer I was able to get a tracker to help find and answer questions from family and friends.

While checking the tracker I noticed that many others were asking the same question and many other questions?

So I started answering as best I could and that the time I even had elders to check with first.

I discovered that even though I had family and friends following the website, I also had over 3,000 un-known followers?

I also noticed that I recognized most of them as greedy, phony, "Non-Indians!"

We call (Wannabe Indians)!

Because of our many years out on the powwow trail I discovered that most of my followers were from different gatherings and powwows through-out Indian Country.

People that just sold junk, or store bought trinkets and clothing made outside of this country?

Back then no one would be allowed at a traditional native gathering selling non native material!

Today the non native material is the normal and native made is the rarely found idem!

To make matters worse, just about all of them were also 'selling' Naming, Weddings, Burial (as in Funeral) as so on, Ceremonies!

As my close followers know, selling a Sacred-Ceremony is against the teachings of our ancestors and frowned on by Kiehtan!

After also learning how to dump these Crooked Wannabes, thanks also to a long time followers, (Pacific Paratrooper).

I felt the need to write, where or when necessary, Friends/Followers?

So, I am able to keep my followers down to people that really wish to read and/or learn about our traditional tribe?

P.S.

Any tribal person in and around Connecticut should already have known this?

Kooskia, Idaho

Welcome to the visitor from Kooskia, Idaho
to a few of our postings
about our Smudging Ceremonies.

And

However, this site was using these three to make a point.

As you have seen while reading this site we use smudging in at least two of our ceremonies (pow-wow and Pau-paus).

These two sites might be helpful?

and

Speaking of
‘Making a Point.’

I happened across a discrepancy on a site West of the Mississippi river about Indian Country in your area while looking for your town, that you might wish to check into someday?

Maybe not, because this person or persons is just trying to sell you a book!

By our count there were toughly 500,000 tribes on our land.
Native American Country (Mother Earth),  and roughly half of them were East of the Mississippi river.

Do powwow's charge money at entry?

Question for the day.

Do all powwow's charge money at enter?

Today there are 3 basic groups of people having powwows.

(1)~ One's that are in it for the money, they need a lot of money to pay their dancers, just like a caravel or a circus they are fun to look at however, nothing traditional about them.

Almost all of them will not allow the public into their ARENA to dance.

(2)~ One's that are wannabes natives, just looking to cash into a casino or make money off the public, a few ways that you can tell them, they call a circle an arena, they have an arena director, they will have a cold gathering so they try to add a lot of color, also having nothing to do with traditional natives they just try to look alike.

They both ask for money!

(3)~ The third will be small and may even look like a pack of bag a bonds, they ask for a donation because they must pay the insurance, electricity, drummers, the MC and the cost to rent the land.

If you feel that you cannot afford a donation you are still welcome by creator and the tribe!

Real drummers and M C's will not charge, or charge very little for transportation, some are even a member of their tribe however, some must charge to help pay for their transportation because they do many gatherings.

It will have a circle with a fire some place on the grounds, usually in the circle with a fire keeper or someplace in the west.

This Fire keeper will be protecting this fire throughout the powwow however, will be trying to be inconspicuous.

Keeper at the gate (not an arena director) a servant to creator and the people charged with maintaining the circle with respect.

This keeper will help keep order and always willing to explain and answer your questions.

You will be blessed by letting yourself go with prayer to your creator, when asked to, get in the circle and let yourself shine, no one cares if you can dance, just always be respectful to your creator.

Evil Powwow

Welcome Calgary Alberta Canada

Looking for information on evil powwow

I must once again start with my two sites, the ones that you clicked on, are about my people, the Native Americans along the east coast of Indian country, far from your area in Canada so the culture and ceremonies may differ some, for instance, the lord of the evil’s in the time of my ancestors and still around this day as a matter of fact, is known as Powwow, so my answer would have to depend on, do you want to know about this evil spirit or are you asking about someone’s bad gathering (powwow)?

I have been to many, far too many lately, evil or just plain bad gatherings, that’s another story for another day however, have not as yet had the opportunity to visit your area so I will write about this Powwow Spirit but first, no spirit good or bad can control you if you are always in contact (prayer) with your Creator.

This spirit is a giant even among to giants of old and caused much pain and suffering, almost ended our people except for Kiehtan intervention.

Evil spirits Coyote, Trickster and Powwows

A little side note, after first contact and the abuse of our ceremonies, our people and our culture from the invaders (USA) our leaders, Shechaim (leader), Head Clan Mothers and elders changed the name of our gathering from Paw-paus to Pow-wow and invited the evil invaders to join in on this phony gathering just to please them and now hold our Sacred Ceremonies in peace.

Native American Gate keeper?

This question has been coming up many times?
The words Gate keeper is an occult religious word used in Shamanism ceremonies.
These religious organizations worship another god, most have more than one god!

There was, is and should never be a "Gatekeeper" in a true traditional Eastern Woodland Native American Ceremony!

If this is what you are interested in then there are many websites and bloggers willing to help you in your quest.

This would be an insult to Creator!
The person at the East, the only place to enter and exit out gatherings, is a Spiritual leader or one of his or her students, there only to help you understand our ceremonies!

You may have noticed while traveling around the internet, many people teaching about our ceremonies will not correctly match up with what the elders taught as the truth.
Many times the teaching is by non native people or someone not from our area.
Occult (Shamanism Occult Religion) was allowed to make its way into our culture after first contact, some of their teachings came along with them!
In our Sacred Ceremony known today as a Circle, entering was always from the east, the sun rises from the east making it easy to see what was going on within this circle.
Before first contact all Sacred Ceremonies were at this east so, this became sacred also.
You may have notices that sometimes even I used this satanic explanation because it seemed to be an easy way to explain, I was wrong!
This must stop.
