How to gift a Chief?

Welcome to the city Waynesville North Carolina

Looking for information on when you visit an Indian Chief is it tradition to give tobacco?

Gifting an elder

To some of my postings

Native American gifting tobacco to an elder?

Tobacco as a gift.

How is tobacco wrapped when presenting to an elder

While traveling around and attending Sundance, Ghost, and other Sacred Dances out west of the Mississippi River, I've noticed that there are times when you may need permission just to get near their chief's and this is OK I just have little knowledge as to when or where because I never had the problem.

Might I suggest that you might play it safe and speak to an elder of that tribe as to the correct procedure.

Gifting a Chief could be a little tricky at times around Indian country so I must once again speak about tribes in and around New England or at least my people.

I do require my chiefs and head clan mothers to pass training on our culture and ceremonies so they use a lot of tobacco while assisting in ceremonies.

People like myself use a lot of tobacco (Kinnick, Kinnick). However, unless I am tied up with a ceremony or in prayer, please come speak with me, my chiefs and  Head Clan Mother at any time, Kinnick, Kinnick is optional.

Tobacco (Herbs) should only be used as a gift

Eastern Woodland American Native Tobacco as a gift offering to Creator in prayer.
How and when to present a gift of tobacco to a Traditional American native?
Any and every time that one wishes to speak with an elder and/or honor an elder it should be by American native tobacco (Kinnick-Kinnick) gift.
Yes, Kinnick- Kinnick in our Friendship pipes is a gift from Creator!
Please remember, there is nothing sacred about any chemical, they are all poison so, what you would be saying if gifting tobacco to this person is, I poison you!
How much is enough tobacco to present as a gift?
How much is not as important as how one gives the gift.
First make sure that the tobacco is Eastern Woodland herb, Kinnick-Kinnick, and then remind the receiver that this gift came from Mother Earth.
Because it did come from Mother Earth it would be nice if it were wrapped in red, why red? Pouch.
Red represents women or Pouch as Mother Earth.
What is American Native Kinnick-Kinnick?
Kinnick-Kinnick is herbs collected from Mother Earth with prayer of thanks to Creator and Mother Earth!
If no Spiritual blessing herbs may be bought and sold, once it has gone through its sacred ceremony, it is a free gift!
My ancestors were simple common sense people.
Their tobacco was grown without chemicals, the ancestors did not need them!
Today our elders know that cigarettes cause cancer, even if they smoke, someone that they know and love has died a horrible death from this cancer.
Please do not insult them by an offering of a cancer causing cigarette.
Will you please use Kinnick~ Kinnick (herbs)?

Tobacco in prayer

Native prayer circles the importance of tobacco in prayer

While on your travels in your search engine you did show up at one of our sites of the native people over on the east coast of Indian Country.

Welcome Minneapolis Minnesota
Looking for
Native prayer circles the importance of tobacco in prayer
To
Smudging the correct way

Our ancestors were simple people so no need to confuse a question with a lot of long confusing words.

Tobacco as everything else on Mother Earth, is a gift from our Creator (Kiehtan).

Tobacco is an herb and our tobacco called (Kinnick-Kinnick) is just a mix of many herbs.

Herbs use in our ceremonies many sometimes change according to the area our people live in.

To answer your question, we use this gift of our tobacco from Kiehtan in every ceremony, Sacred or not because it is a gift from our Creator, what better way to show our love?

P.S.

Long before natives in your area needed to deal with the 'White Invaders' from the east, my people over on the east coast were being forced to travel west and many of my people settled in and around your area spreading the word of what was to come because of what was happening to our people.

How much tobacco is enough to gift an elder?

Welcome to the visitor to my blog posting and websites from

Spanaway Washington

Looking for information on how much tobacco to gift elders?

This subject has been covered many times by many people however, it is also one of the extremely important questions for we, the teachers of our culture, to get right while answering.

First! I will never tier of that statement, gifting tobacco has no chemicals in it, if you wish to give someone a cigarette, just do it without using our culture as an excuse!

Cigarettes are poison!

If you are gifting because you wish permission to speak to this elder, the amount is not as important as the correct way to gift.

If you are gifting because you know that that elder is getting low or it is a friendship gift, give as much as you feel it enough.

Remember that the gift is Kinnick~Kinnick.

How to gift?

Walk up until you get sight attention, stop, show a form of respect, when you know you have permission and with tobacco in your left hand, offer your gift to the elders left hand, stop and wait for that elder to receive your gift, speak your peace when asked, back a few steps, show respect and continue on your way unless asked to join this elder.

The main reason for any of this is for your heart to be in a (Aquine mood) remember that someday you will be this elder!

Creator is watching.

Slocan British Columbia Canada

How much tobacco offering to elder for inipi
Welcome Slocan British Columbia Canada

Although you are quite a ways up north from my people, your people and my people did travel north and south long before someone places a "Border" between our people?

I would like to step out on a limb, so to speak, and give you our answer to your question if I may?

Remembering that our people used herbs now called tobacco long before chemicals were placed into modern tobacco just to get people addicted to smoke and we call this our tobacco (Kinnick, Kinnick) or a group of herbs?

OK

How much tobacco offering to an Elder presiding over a "Sacred Sweat (Sweat-Lodge) Inipi?

First, one must never, never be forced to pay for any true traditional ceremony in our culture, never.

That said, this Elder more than likely uses a lot of his Kinnick-Kinnick through the year so a pouch before the ceremony, any ceremony is always appreciated my friend.

Teaching Native American Tobacco

Sault Sainte Marie Ontario Canada

Looking for tobacco native teachings

Teaching Native American Tobacco from a New England Eastern Woodland Tribal point of view only.

Tobacco, the herb now used in cigarettes before any chemicals are added, has been one of many herbs used in our culture, ONE OF MANY, I felt that that needed to be repeated.

Grand Clan Mothers have gathered this herb and others that Spiritual leaders have used since long before our written words.

If one were to smoke or chew this herb, one would never become addicted to it.

This herb (Tobacco) was never used in ceremonies by itself, it was a mix of many herbs and mixed accordingly for each ceremony, it was the Europeans that started this chemical mix for smoking.

My Grandfather and Grandmother had a very large tobacco garden in Uncasvillage for many years, of course they also grew the rest of the herbs needed for our ceremonies.

Native American Tobacco!

The favorite question asked today is still about tobacco.

It should be!

You may have noticed that we have many blogs on tobacco, sage, cedar and sweet grass.

Them just type in tobacco.

Tobacco (herbs) is extremely important to our people.

So, one should not be surprised about this, we should also understand that answers,

(at least traditional answers)

are also extremely important to you because, there are so many wolf's in sheep's clothing always welling to reach into your pockets.

Never pay for native information, Never, unless it is with tobacco ( Kinnick~ Kinnick)!

Please remember that my answers to your questions will always be from what is known from my ancestors and my ancestors are of the Traditional Eastern Woodland American Native People.

That said, you may find that the answers are, for the most part, simple common sense answers to your questions.

My ancestors were simple common sense people.

Their tobacco was grown without chemicals, they did not need them!

Today our elders know that cigarettes cause cancer, even if they smoke, someone that they know and love has died a horrible death from this cancer.

Please do not insult us by an offering of a cancer causing cigarette.

Can one use Kinnick, Kinnick if tobacco is mixed in?

Welcome to Bayville New Jersey
Looking for information about Native American Kinnick, Kinnick
The question was
can you use kenick for ceremony if tobacco is mixed in
Yes, tobacco without chemicals is a very important part of herbs used in this mixture by my people and yours that makes up what we, the natives call Kinnick, Kinnick.
This said please do not get hung up on any type of herb, tobacco is an herb, that you will be using the only thing to remember about tobacco, herbs, ceremonies and our culture in general is that they are all meant to remind us to get into prayer with our Creator!
None of the about is demanded or required just remember to talk often to Creator, AHO (Amen)!
Herbs are Tobacco, Sweet grass, Sage, Herbs and NOT Cigarettes!

Do you offer tobacco at a native American wedding?

Do you offer tobacco at a native American wedding ?
Yes!
A good Traditional Spiritual leader uses a lot of tobacco (Kinnick, Kinnick) and charges you nothing for the service, so yes a good traditional spiritual leader is always in need of the herbs (Kinnick~ Kinnick).
One should also remember that a tobacco gift given the correct way is a prayer for a blessing to the person receiving your gift, so you can gift this herb anytime that you feel the need to.
Because a traditional native American is always giving out this herb, receiving this herb is a blessing to the pocket book.
Our gift given tobacco is Kinnick~ Kinnick!

How is tobacco wrapped when presenting to an elder

Welcome to Powell Ohio
Ohio  is the land of the Shawnee people.
Bing.com: how is tobacco wrapped when presenting to an elder
Your question is a good one however, search has taken you to a site that does not answer your question totally.
how is tobacco wrapped when presenting to an elder
As long as it is Herbs such as Kinnick-Kinnick it can be wrapped (Red Cloth) or freely given, not a Cigarette or Cigar!
When walking up to this elder, assuming your elder is a traditionalist, please make sure that this elder knows that you are coming, be respectful, show your herbs in your left hand, ( no need to be over the top, just make sure that the elder knows what you are about to do) then reach out with the tobacco while still in your left hand to the elders left hand.
Explain the purpose for the tobacco.
Once again being respectful back away a few steps and be on your way with the full knowledge that Creator is smiling on you while on your journey!
Red represents your mother, Mother Earth.

American Native Wedding Family

Words from a Native American wedding ceremony?
At a time when the couple is ready and the wedding party is set around the prayer alter each in turn may exchange their love and vowels to each other, the female has the choice as to who will start first.
The Spiritual leader performing the blessed event, in our tribe, will first speak to Creator in our tongue, then English for each section of the wedding ceremony.
The words chosen by the couple with the acceptance are not as important as the words by the couple and the tribal sacred words from the Spiritual leader to the couple and Creator, what the words are of course is a very guarded secret sacred ceremony.
The Eastern Woodland American Native Wedding Ceremony, this must be said because this is only speaking about our people.
There are still over 500 tribes in Indian Country
That have permission to be recognized and at least as many that the government is still trying to eliminate by not recognizing.
There are about 500 ways they may have to their native weddings; I have been to many of them.
Our wedding ceremony, a Traditional Wedding, should be something like many of the others however; it is not like the Funeral ceremony, because the public may enjoy the complete ceremony with the permission of the couple.
The beginning and ending prayer, like most sacred prayers should never be recorded, this is the leader and the couples request for marriage to Creator and thanks to Creator after the ceremony.
The prayer can be filmed just not the words. Only the Spiritual leader and the couple need the Creators blessing at the beginning, Creator at the end of the ceremony will bless everyone.
If you are being groomed for our ceremony please understand, this can take from a few days to at least a month.
By studying correctly you will knowing that you will be blessed, remember; only Creator can bless!
Someone, in the favor with the couple, should gift a blanket; this person must also attend at least some of the pre ceremony.
Everyone gifting at the time of and with the permission of the Spiritual leader and the couple should attend at least some of the pre ceremony.
Sometimes the families and/or friends wish to gift a Turtle Rattle, Regalia, Headpiece, Sage, Sweet grass, and/or Tobacco for the ceremony.
As with the funeral ceremony, both families can asked to help with the meal after.
Anyone asked to, can join in the meal and whatever plans after the wedding.
Native American pre marriage ceremonies
The pre marriage meetings for our people is not a requirement for marriage, it is a request from the spiritual leader.
At this meeting the couple and any member of the soon to be wedding, will learn everything that will take place on that blessed day, the couple and any person directly involved will then know what is expected of them by Creator during the wedding.
The couple will learn where to stand and why, will learn about the regalia and why it is used and all of the sacred blessings from Creator through your ancestors.
That said, please remember, whatever happens during the wedding will not be judged, after all it is a fun, loving, first day for the rest of your lives.

Tobacco companies are suing the government?

This is a trick question right?
Tobacco companies are suing the government?

Five tobacco companies, while fueling tobacco with children hooking drugs, are suing our government because the mandated graphic warning labels are infringing on their rights.
It just might be that the tens of millions of people being unknowingly drugged and hooked on this product also have rights, the right to know what you are doing to their body's and life!

Yes, everyone knows that you will win the court case because of the hundreds of lobbyists you pay and the politicians, Pork/Turkey!

Shame on the Indians in Indian country selling this product to our people.

You know that you are poisoning your people to make money!

My ancestors were simple common sense people.

Can you re-gift native tobacco offerings

Welcome Petawawa Ontario Canada

To one of our posting on Traditional Native American Gifting.

Tobacco (Herbs) as a Traditional Native American Gift

While looking for information about,

" Can you re-gift native tobacco offerings?"

The short answer is YES of course you can.

If you have ever been to any of our Websites and/or Blogs you know by now that a short answer from Shechaim Ohjieshan is only the beginning.

:-)

All gifts are given to you through Mother Earth from your Creator, so we believe that Creator smiles when you gift any gift?

Our Sacred Tobacco is a mixture of herbs we call Kinnick-Kinnick.

Remember if you will that this site and all of our websites and blogs are from the teaching of the ancestors in and around The New England Area.

That said, also remember that not one of our ancestors had a border to keep them from traveling north and south of what we now call the

' Canada/United States Border'!

And our people did travel north, south, east and west to visit many friends in other tribes.
As for what to say, it does not matter much as long as you are
 walking with your Creator?
So just pray on it?
