I always enjoy these question Sheridan, Wyoming

Welcome to Sheridan, Wyoming
To

Tobacco (Herbs) as a Traditional Native American Gift
04/08/2011

I always enjoy this question because it gives me an honest chance to vent frustration against cigarettes.

Please always remember the distance from the little village of my ancestors and the area of the visitor, in this case Wyoming, looking for an answer?

I write to help our people keep the ancestors ways alive in the hearts and minds of our people and try to help correct some miss understandings in print lately.

That said

Please also remember that while our ancestors were using their herbs (Kinnick-Kinnick), there was no such thing as the chemicals being used by modern tobacco companies to get you hooked at spending your hard earned money just to die a horrible death smoking their poison cigarettes!

Sorry and thank you for allowing the venting.
I have watched far too many of my friends die this death from their cigarettes.

Herbs

Herbs from your area can be found all around your area, please contact a Clan Mother from a tribe in or around your area for the correct use of your herbs?

I am not sure why you came to visit this site however, I am well pleased that you did.

Because, as you can see, traditionalist following the ways of our ancestors
did not pollute our body's or Mother Earth,
as I am sure the same is with you.

The idea that our ancestors were savages is not only faults, but an oxymoron.

Welcome to Derry, New Hampshire

Welcome to our visitor from Derry, New Hampshire

To one of our smudging postings.
Does smudging get rid of good spirits also?
10/25/2011
The short of this is, if you are looking for the truth?
(NO)!
Smudging, unless you are talking about East of the Mississippi river, is anyone lighting something dry enough to smoke and smoke whatever you wish to be smoked.
Smudging as with our ancestors East of the Mississippi river, was with Kinnick-Kinnick
(a group of Sacred Herbs chosen and picked under the direction of the Head Clan Mother).
And never burned in any of our ceremonies.
Smudging by today's (Indians) in your area is more than likely done however and by whomever?
Or
Someone that relocated from West of the Mississippi river from one of their tribes.
I know your area very well although I have not been back for some time now.
Up until my retirement 2004, I had been going to gathering around your area since the age of six (over 70 years ago).
All of the ceremonies from the teaching of our ancestors East of the Mississippi river, are a type of prayer, as in talking, dancing, singing and drumming with Creator.

Always glad to see visitors to our blogs and the Main Website.

This time a little correction is needed about our herb, Kinnick-Kinnick if you will.

A correction in the spelling of this herb.
Also

Please remember the distance between your state and our people, hence the words Indian Country and Native American Country.

I am sure that Indians in and around your state have different ceremonies in their culture.

I am not sure in what state Author Shelagh Dillon lives in, so this might be the way it is spelled by the First People in and around her state?

Welcome to Arvada, Colorado

Welcome to
our/my
visitor
from
Arvada, Colorado

Although time and distance will prove to be a hiccup
between our culture and ceremonies,

And

The culture and ceremonies of tribes around your area.

I personally wish to thank you for your question.

You see,
my post is in need of a few explanations.

The following is my way to help understand

(Tobacco),
in our culture.

Creator created the 'Tobacco Plant' as I am sure that you will agree,
'along with everything else'!

Man placed poison chemicals into tobacco
just to hook humans on their type of tobacco.

Therefore, with this knowledge fresh in our minds,
creator also created all herbs.

We in our area of Native American Country, mix herbs,
along with the herb tobacco,
into our

prayer pouches.

And

In our little corner of
Native American Country,
we believe that Creator created herbs
for the free use by humans.

Therefore, we use herbs in our ceremonies for free.

You replacing our herb is
in no way mandatory or expected.

However,
it is a way to gift an elder.

And

Last but by no means least, all prayers are for a blessing from our Creator to someone or something.

As always, on the way down from Creator the blessings also are a blessing to the person making the prayer request!

This is the old post.

"Do you offer tobacco at a Native American wedding?

Yes!

A good Traditional Spiritual Leader uses a lot of tobacco

(Kinnick ~ Kinnick)

And

Charges you nothing for the service.

So yes, a good traditional spiritual leader is always in need of the herbs

(Kinnick ~ Kinnick).

One should also remember that a tobacco gift given the correct way is a

Prayer for a blessing to the person receiving your gift, so you can gift this

herb anytime that you feel the need to.

Because a traditional Native American is always giving out this herb.

Receiving this herb is a blessing to the pocket.

Our gift given tobacco is

Kinnick~ Kinnick!"

Native American Wedding Ceremony (Traditional)

06/09/2011

Do you offer tobacco at a Native American wedding?

Yes!

A good Traditional Spiritual Leader uses a lot of tobacco

(Kinnick ~ Kinnick).

First thing my long time followers might have notices about this post is that I allowed a picture with the word chief in it.

Something that, for the most part, is Taboo to every Traditionalist.

However

In this case, this is a school in the area of my ancestors and any Traditionalist Elder can adopt a school and put the students to work.

Remember

In our culture a chief is a temporary position and only a chief by appointment
by a
'Head Clan Mother'
or the
 Shechaim (Sachem).

I now charge the Students
(Chiefs),
to learn why they now have the right
to be called a chief.

Both of the photos are of my last wedding

four very dear people of the clan,
before my retirement

Tobacco (Herbs) as a Traditional Native American Gift.
4/8/11

I am not sure is you know that, in spite of the distance from London Ontario to Uncasvillage USA, natives (the first people of the area, could still be related.

First

Our people came from
the Great Lakes Area.

Second

Our people were forced to leave our land over on the east coast in and around Uncasvillage because of the brutal treatment from the invading intruded from the east.

Tobacco (Herbs) as a Traditional Native American Gift.
That said, Tobacco (Kinnick Kinnick), might be gifted the same in both areas.

"Tobacco

(Herbs)

as a

Traditional Native American

Gift.

Because tobacco seems to be one of the most asked questions, I will write about this today.

Please understand that when talking about Traditional Tobacco Gift,

I write only as a traditionalist,

Therefore, tobacco is Kinnick - Kinnick (Herbs),

Tobacco no one would ever enjoy smoking.

A tobacco plant is an organic herb and always included into Kinnick - Kinnick before any type of chemical is used on it before or after picking.

Please also remember, there is nothing sacred about any chemical, they are all poison so, what you would be saying if gifting just a cigarettes as tobacco to this person is, have some poison!

Tobacco that is used in our pipe ceremonies and as a gift is called Kinnick - Kinnick.

At no time will a Traditional Native American encourage smoking non-native tobacco poisoned by chemicals, we use organic herbs only!

This herb can be found almost anywhere around your area for free.

If it is native to your area, natives in your area used it as their tobacco, Kinnick - Kinnick.

Sacred Kinnick - Kinnick should never be sold so make sure that no one tells you that it has been blessed and then tries to sell it to you are just trying to get more money out of you!

On Friday February 4, 2011 on this blog, I wrote, "Tobacco should only be used as a gift"

Eastern Woodland American Native Tobacco as a gift offering to Creator in prayer.

How and when to present a gift of tobacco to a Traditional American native? Any and every time that one wishes to speak with an elder and/or honor an elder, it should be by American native tobacco (Kinnick - Kinnick) gift.

How much is enough tobacco to present as a gift?

How much is not as important as how one gives the gift. First, make sure that the tobacco is Eastern Woodland herb, Kinnick - Kinnick, and then remind the receiver that this gift came from Mother Earth.

Because it did come from Mother Earth, it would be nice if it were wrapped in red, why red. Red represents women or Mother Earth.

What is American Native Kinnick - Kinnick?

Kinnick - Kinnick is herbs collected from Mother Earth with prayer of thanks to Creator and Mother Earth!

Do not believe an outsider from another tribe telling you that we all must use their tobacco, their way; this is the way of our people. AHO.

One does not almost hand our tobacco to an elder, because we are standing for an answer from an elder, that tobacco now belongs to elder."

The post that you clicked onto is extremely important
to anyone wishing to learn and respect our ways.

Thank-you for asking your question.

O.K.

That said.

What's in a word?

Well in many cases (A Lot).

For instance, in a Christian Bible 'Word' is their 'God'.

While talking about our people, you are included in this,

Gatekeeper is a person allowing you to pass into an occult circle.

Not in any of our Traditional ceremonies or in our culture.

In a Traditionalist Sacred Circle, the person standing in the east, if there is someone there, is offering tobacco (Kinnick-Kinnick) to all wishing to ask Kiehtan for a blessing.

In other words, (a little play on words if you well)?

All are welcome.

Talk about an Enormous Oxymoron

Passing cigarettes around at a Funeral?

Talk about an

Just a Moron?

Two very important subject for today's youth.

Why are cigarettes offered at a Native American Funeral?

Tobacco (Herbs) as a Traditional Native American Gift.

4/8/11

The answer could be in at least two parts.

The person passing around chemical tobacco (Cigarettes) is just too lazy to collect the correct herbs. And/or

The person passing around chemical tobacco (Cigarettes) does not know or care about the correct etiquette and culture.

And/or

Does not have a connection to Head Clan Mothers that has her clan mothers picking cleaning and clearing the correct herbs (Kinnick-Kinnick).

O.K.

Maybe Three or more

Welcome to the visitor from

Native American Wedding Ceremony (Traditional)

6/9/11

Mind you, my friend, nothing done in our culture (ceremonies), with our Tobacco (Kinnick-Kinnick), is for pay.

That said, while it is not mandatory it is a good act of kindness to the Spiritual Leader.

Because

A good Traditional Spiritual leader uses a lot of tobacco

(Kinnick-Kinnick)

and

charges you nothing for the service.

So yes because a good traditional Spiritual leader is always in need of the herbs (Kinnick~ Kinnick).

Also

Remember that our tobacco is a group of herbs, picked by one or more of our clan mothers, handed to a Spiritual leader and blessed by our Creator (Kiehtan) we call (Kinnick-Kinnick).
If one wishes to honor the Spiritual Leader,

The correct way to gift an American Native is from your left hand to their left hand.

If the gift is words, then from your mouth with your left hand to the left shoulder of that person, which you should know is the closest to the heart.

If the gift is too big, then your left hand to your heart, straight out pointing at the gift or gifts.

It is very easy to spot a real Traditional Native American.

They are the ones constantly giving something away.

If you choose to gift a true American Native, and you do not want that person giving it away, do not give it to them.

As a young native a wise old native told me , " Once you give something to me, it is mine, you cannot tell me what to do with it".

"Once I give something to you it is yours, never ask if I want it back, now you go do the same".

If at any time an American Native is thought to have a religion, this would be it.

We believe that everything on Mother Earth is a free gift from Creator to all creatures, so if it is a free gift from Creator to all creatures, then it was predestined to be given away.

If Creator wishes you to have it, then it will be coming back.

What, Smudging is not of God

Smudging is not of God?

New York

is in the same area as the

Moiigans (Maïngan)
my people.
Therefore,
the tribes in your state,
or at least their ancestors,
use
Kinnick-Kinnick.
So
If tribes in your area
(or even these new age Indians, Nations),
are not using herbs from your area,
they do not know Kiehtan,
are not praying to Creator
and
therefore
do not know your God.
Strong Language?

Will

it has to be
because
this is the main basic existence for our people

living on

 Mother Earth.

"Prayers to and Blessing from Kiehtan, our Creator."

Welcome to the visitor from Akron Ohio

We, Tah and I, have had the honor of visiting a few Shawnee Villages in the past

One in

and
one in

come to mind.

Can you imagine the number of, so called,
"Non Recognized Shawnee Tribes?"
That are still in those two states,
not even counting Oklahoma.

What did they do paint themselves with invisible paint?

Maybe they thought that it was

Please keep in mind while you read our answers to this type of question.

We love, protect and respect our people and mostly the Elders and Ancestors.
