Native Gifting of Tobacco

RED IS THE COLOR of the HEART BLOOD

Welcome Stockton California

To one of our posting about Native Gifting of Tobacco

Native American gifting tobacco (Herbs) to an elder?

6/14/11

I see that you came to the site twice.

Hope, that you found what you were looking for?

Please remember, there is nothing sacred about any chemical, they are all poison so, what you would be saying if gifting tobacco to this person is, I poison you!

A person handing this herb will usually have it wrapped in something for a convenience to the elder, not always but, if it is wrapped, red would be the preferred color of the wrap.

Also, by using your left hand to his/her left hand, shows true respect and knowledge to the elder.
Remember that you found your way to this sites

Tobacco, Herbs, Kinnick-Kinnick

Welcome to the visitor that came directly to one of our postings from Milwaukee Wisconsin

To
Herbs, Kinnick, Kinnick is our Tobacco

As you may or may not know, according to my elders, now ancestors, our people over in the east coast (Mohiigan's) and yes as of lately our tribe has been given many names?

Our tribe came to this land in the north eastern part of Indian country from around your area.

And because of the abuse after first contact, many traveled back west.

Both to and from was such a long time ago that tribes in and around your area may have some different ceremonies by now?

However, for as far back as my knowledge while picking my elders brains, our tobacco was always a mix of many herbs, no chemicals, called Kinnick-Kinnick.

Because we are of a Matriarch society, our Medicine women find, pick, clean and prepare the herb to make ready for our Medicine man.

In other words, 'Chemical Cigarettes' are taboo and by using them in any type of our ceremony is an insult to our people,  your knowledge, any elder, anyone that you wish to gift and most of all to Kiehtan our Creator!

I do hope that this is of some help?
If not questions are always welcome.

Now
To your two visits.

One would have to assume that native first people in and around the area ancestors go back thousands of years, the culture and ceremonies use herbs in and around your corner of Mother Earth?

So

As with our ancestor, herbs found around your area were use in the ceremonies.

Make them sacred is another story!

Native American gifting tobacco (Herbs) to an elder?

First thing to remember about our tobacco, it was, it is, and should always be, herbs (Kinnick Kinnick) not a chemical treated cigarettes!
While offering a cigarette, please remember, it is an insult to a Traditional if that person is a Non Smoker!

(RED IS THE COLOR of the HEART BLOOD)
Also, by using your left hand to his/her left hand, shows true respect and knowledge to the elder.

Have you seen the movie Avatar?
The new leader (Tsu'Tey) placed his left hand on the, Touk Makto, (Jake Sully's) left shoulder and said, ( I will fly with you) someone did their homework on Native Americans for this will played movie.
Each time a native uses a traditional way an elder sheds a tear of joy.

My ancestors were simple common sense people.

Their tobacco was grown without chemicals, the ancestors did not need them!

Today our elders know that cigarettes cause cancer, even if they smoke, someone that they know and love has died a horrible death from this cancer.

Please do not insult them by an offering of a cancer causing cigarette.

Will you please use Kinnick~ Kinnick (herbs)?

An error about our ceremonies and culture?

Fontaine-Étoupefour Basse-Normandie France

Welcome to the blogger of Sachem Walkingfox looking for information about herbs Kinnick~ Kinnick

Thank you for the opportunity to write about something just found on the internet, it was not from your search however, please allow me to correct an error about our ceremonies and culture?

Native American Kinnick~ Kinnick (Tobacco).

Herbs, Kinnick, Kinnick is our Tobacco.

The Herbs, Kinnick, Kinnick is our Tobacco.

A reverse instead of the normal?

For hundreds of years Europeans have come to our shores while keeping their own cultures.

Today one can see a change in this practice, now the Europeans are going back using our culture?

Kinnick ~ Kinnick is not now nor should it ever be a Celtic herb!

One cannot mix our herbs with LSD, Chemicals or Cigarettes and call it Kinnick ~ Kinnick because it then becomes an occult herb!

Welcome to Springfield, Massachusetts

Welcome to Springfield, Massachusetts
Tah and I as well as a number of our ancestors have been to a number of ‘gatherings’ in and around your area.
You came to one of our ‘tobacco information sites’
so always remember that
a tobacco plant in and of itself in not poison.
It is only when humans add chemicals to any plant making a plant poison,
because of the chemicals, no long an herb used by our people of Native American country.
I might also now add that because of the chemicals in that human treated plant you would be smoking a poison plant!

What sweet herbs can be mixed with tobacco.

Tulsa Oklahoma

Welcome to the visitor to my blog looking for information about, what sweet herbs can be mixed with tobacco.

While most native people use tobacco for many reasons, my people never, never used chemical cigarettes until long after first contact, so speaking as part of my people, we never mix our herbs with a cigarettes because we believe that to be wrong to our bodies, we use Kinnick, Kinnick.
Kinnick, Kinnick is a mix of herbs.
Hope that this answer helps?

How to gift a Spiritual leader?

Native American Spirituality.
"Spirituality is not religion to American Natives.
Religion is not a Native concept, it is a non Native word,
with implications of things that often end badly, like
Holy wars, in the name of individual God's and so on.
Native people do not ask what religion another Native is,
because they already know the answer.
To Native people, spirituality is about the Creator, period."
Gifting a spiritual leader.
A spiritual leader is just another worker for Creator, one would gift them as you would any traditional Native person.
The traditional way to give is a gift of tobacco (Kicnic-kicnic), as the request is made to gift that person.

Please remember, there is nothing sacred about any chemical, they are all poison so, what you would be saying by gifting tobacco to this person is, I poison you!
Remember, the left side of a person is the closest to the heart so, when you are sure that that person knows that you are approaching and with the gift in your left hand, reach out to that persons left hand, with your eyes looking at their heart, hand the gift, hand to hand.
A traditional leader uses a lot of this tobacco so, you can be sure that it will be greatly appreciated.

Our sacred prayers at ceremonies.

The only question asked as often as a question about
Native American tobacco
on my tracker
is a question about
our sacred prayers at ceremonies!
Questions like.
(1)- What way is the peace pipe passed traditionally?
(2)- What prayer is at a Native American Funeral?
(3)- What is the naming ceremony prayer?
(4)- Native American wedding prayers?
(5)- How to do a traditional smudge?
(6)- How to build a sweat lodge?
And so on!
It does my heart good to see that the true Native Americans have totally ignored these questions!
Non-natives and wannabe medicine people want to learn about our prayers to take advantage of unsuspecting victims and get into their pockets!
Remember the European type Guru?
Also
Remember, a true Traditions Native American
will never charge for the services!
I say to these phony non-natives.
Why not leave us alone and go into politics?
You can lie, steal and cheat many more people
And
Make a lot more money while you are at it?
I must take back my compliment
about Native Americans
Not responding to requests
for sacred knowledge
about our sacred ceremonies!
While going through my blog tracker,
there was two newspaper websites
about a tribe in New England
that gave a present to the Queen of England
because she returned a long lost Shechaim’s bones to them,
this
" (spiritual leader)"????
this is what he called himself a spiritual leader,
received a peace pipe refilled it with some tobacco,
So it must have been awakened at some point it time?
This Shechaim, was shunned by those same modern government Indians!
He and some of his friends
smoked to what they called
"The four directions"?
After they finished this smoking
he gave his peace pipe,???
I guess still hot,???
to the queen?
When asked the question
he said,
"Yes it is now her pipe; she can have any ceremony that she, the queen, wants."???
(WHAT)?
However,
After reading both news reports one would find out that
the pipe is made from pipe stone,
A Plains Indian pipe.
The tobacco was chemical cigarette tobacco,
Also used by plains Indians.
His Costume was
part plains Indian
And
Part clown with turkey, feathers.???
There was no Keeper of the pipe!
He called the pipe a Peace pipe,???
As far back as I have been taught
 (76 years now),
New England Native Americans
had no peace pipe,
They had
Friendship pipes,
So in short,
This may not count for my blog.
However, tell me what do you think?

What gift for native American elder

Welcome to the cities of Plymouth Minnesota

New Port Richey Florida

To my posting about gifting, this time the question is a memorable one asked often about gifting to an elder.

To my blogs

and

This question I am pleased to say, as with most of my postings and websites, cannot be asked too many times, because the more it is asked the more often it gets out on the internet for all to see and/or challenge.

Also, the question is a good one and the answer is a simple one because simplicity is the name of the game while writing about the truth?

As with all of my writings about our tobacco, I start with this.

First thing to remember about our tobacco, it was, it is, and should always be, herbs (Kinnick Kinnick) not a chemical treated cigarettes!

While offering a cigarette, please remember, it is an insult to a Traditional if that person is a Non Smoker!

A person handing this herb will usually have it wrapped in something for a convenience to the elder, not always but, if it is wrapped, red would be the preferred color of the wrap,

(RED IS THE COLOR of the HEART BLOOD).

Also, by using your left hand to his/her left hand, shows true respect and knowledge to the elder.

Each time a native person uses a traditional elder way an ancestor sheds a tear of joy.

Let's do this once again.

Some people are still charging for teaching and or ceremonies, this is so wrong.
This has been covered in my blog and website Naming Ceremony Protocol.
On my Tobacco blog it was explained that a tracker on my blog and website is used as one of many teaching tool.
When people ask questions about ceremonies it is very important to understand that one should never pay for teaching or ceremonies, the only exception is native tobacco ( Kicnic-kicnic also known as herbs). Some family's give a meal after however, that is up to a family not for payment.
What Creator gives for free must remain free.
While using search engines you see that many tribes have their way to do ceremonies.
As with ours, in most tribes it is O. K. to have a baby invited into a naming ceremony, as long as there is no charge. Creator used a Red Fox to give me my name at the age of 6.
Many tribes also have a naming ceremony once the person is old enough to know what it is all about, the only real important thing to remember is, allow time for an elder to go to Creator in prayer for the correct name, this should if possible be done before the day of the ceremony, because all ceremonies must be blessed by Creator or there really is no ceremony.
Yes this is getting redundant however, wannabe spiritual leaders are still doing, not performing, ceremonies and are still charging.
This is a repeat of an earlier blog.
First and the most important thing would be to make sure that you are an American native, to find this out ask an elder.
The traditional way to make a request to receive your American native name is to give a gift of Kicnic-kicnic, as the request is made, to the person you are requesting the name from.
You and your family must also plan a meal or "feast" to celebrate after the Naming Ceremony is completed.
If others are receiving their names, the covered dishes will be shared.
Present a gift of tobacco from your left hand to the left hand of the individual you are wishing to receive a name from this means heart to heart.
This person should be a person you respect and must be someone who is an American native elder from the nation that you are requesting a name from.
Personally ask if you may make a request of this person, either in person, by phone or e-mail. Receive this individual's consent to allow you to make a request.
Honor a male and a female with tobacco and request that they stand with you as sponsors at the ceremony. These should be individuals who have made a significant impact in your life and are familiar with that American native nation.
Naming ceremony is held in a prayer circle with a fire, both of which must be properly prepared. (Honor the prayer circle with appropriate attire and attitudes. Regalia should be worn if available.)
Give thanks to the Creator and all the sponsors.
One should NEVER have to pay for any American native gift;
If you do the gift will be void, and so will the ceremony!

Can one offer tobacco for love?

Sudbury Ontario Canada

AQUINE (Peace to you)

Welcome to the visitor to my teaching blog posting looking for answers to their questions about

Can you offer tobacco for love?

I cannot begin to understand what this person was getting at

If this person wishes to show love to someone that this person thinks the world of, well then, our tobacco (Kinnick-Kinnick) is an excellent choice for showing your love, if presented and explained correctly!

However, if this person wants to offer a cigarette to the other one in this love?

Why poison that person? Was love all that bad? Just asking?

LOL

I am pleased to be able to teach as much as possible about my traditional ancestors.

As you may or may not see while traveling around the internet, some teaching about our people will not compute with what the elders taught as the truth, many times often taught by non native people or not from my tribe!

Please remember that all questions about the websites and blogs will be answered by Sachem Walkingfox

Is it okay to give sage and tobacco at a Native American Funeral?

Pinson Tennessee

Another great question of the day.

At a Native American Funeral is it okay to give sage and tobacco?

If you just checked the two blog postings then you have found the answer to your question for my people, the Eastern Woodland American First People Natives of New England.

I must keep saying this because our ways are not always the same for all tribes!

Tobacco, without chemicals, and sage are just a few of the herbs included in our Kinnick~ Kinnick that grow in our area so, the answer to your question is YES!

Please remember that a Spiritual Leader uses lots of this herb and would be extremely grateful of your gift.

If this is a Traditional Funeral, many people use the herbs (Kinnick~ Kinnick) because in today's world, fire is not always an option!

I am non-native and work for a native community. There has recently been a lot of movement in bringing culture into everything that we do. I have taken the time to learn a lot about the culture, customs, and traditions but am a little nervous to participate because I am not sure how it will be received. I don't really know how to effectively do what I am being asked to do. One of my dilemmas is that I know that you are supposed to offer tobacco when you ask if someone will open at an event with a prayer. Would it be wrong for me to offer the tobacco to this person? (Most of the people in my department are non-native as well and I can't imagine asking my supervisor to do it)I have had tobacco gifted to me and this is the tobacco that I would use. Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide. on Native American Wedding Ceremony (Traditional).

Talk about an Enormous Oxymoron

Passing cigarettes around at a Funeral?

Talk about an

Enormous Oxymoron

Or

Just a Moron?

Welcome to our visitor from

Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada

To

Two very important subject for today's youth.

Why are cigarettes offered at a Native American Funeral?

8/16/11

 And

Tobacco (Herbs) as a Traditional Native American Gift.

4/8/11

The answer could be in at least two parts.

The person passing around chemical tobacco (Cigarettes) is just too lazy to collect the correct herbs. And/or

The person passing around chemical tobacco (Cigarettes) does not know or care about the correct etiquette and culture.

And/or

Does not have a connection to Head Clan Mothers that has her clan mothers picking cleaning and clearing the correct herbs (Kinnick-Kinnick).

O.K.

Maybe Three or more
